Aww thanks guys. I've been experiencing pain for 6 months now, so its nice to finally know the cause and know its not just me being a wimp when I say my knee hurts!!!

I'm no orthopaedic surgeon but I talked to my friend tonight who has done 2 ortho rotations...she reckons I'll be right within a few days. I need to wait to see a surgeon myself, but I guess I'll try and get it done sooner rather than later.

Like so many others, I can't offer any knee advice, just send hugs, ice packs and good wishes! Do whatever's best for you -- you're in a better position than most of us to make an informed decision! And keep taking care of yourself.

Dodgy knees sound very painful and I hope that whatever the outcome of the surgery, you get back on your feet in no time.

Oh, sorry to hear about the tears but good to get a diagnosis! Arthroscopy is the way to go for tears, as far as I can tell. I have tears in the lateral meniscus of both knees, and had a menisctomy on my left knee.

The two days after surgery really suck. Then it gets better, and you'll be hobbling around on crutches for a week or so. As far as going back to work goes, it depends on what kind of work you do. If you sit a lot, you need to get up and move around regularly because your knee will stiffen up and hurt a lot if you keep it in one position. Also, try to schedule the surgery on a Tuesday or Wednesday, then you'll have the weekend to recover and be back at work on Monday.

It will take around 6 weeks to start feeling some benefit of the surgery, and 3 months to fully recover.

As far as delaying or not, consult your schedule and see if you have a 3-month window (or 2 month at minimum) in which your knee can be not totally 100%.

Good luck!

Ok you know you're addicted to ylf when you write here asking for knee advice!!

I've just got my MRI results back which confirm I have a tear in the medial meniscus of my right knee. No wonder I've had pain for 6 months. Dr is recommending arthroscopy to try and repair it.

I don't know whether to try and get it done as early as possible (within weeks) or delay it for a while, given that its not super urgent, but is preventing me from doing any running without pain. Actually even some yoga movement hurt, but bike riding is ok!

Cathy I know you had recent knee surgery, how about anyone else? Dr reckons I'd only need 2-3 days off work to get this done. Does that sound realistic??

Thanks for advice!
