I was at school when Qld did a trial all those years ago... possibly early 1990's I think it was!

From memory we don't have it because the majority of Qld didn't want it at the time... and where i live, that has not changed one iota! I think its just SE Qld near the border and in the city that actually keep pushing for it here.

I'll be honest, I hope we NEVER have to do it while I have kids! When I was at school during the trial phase, we would be leaving school at 3pm on the clock, but 2pm real time - the hottest part of the day, in the skin cancer capital of the world... so picture a whole school of kids forced out into the sun, onto hot, unair conditioned buses for 45 min bus trips home, then another 2 km bike ride home from the bus stop (I lived in a rural area at the time!), and then being asked to go to bed at 7.30-8pm by the clock, but it still being daylight outside! It was positively awful and I can remember every single parent commenting on how we were all extra exhausted and cranky because we were out in that extreme heat and had our sleeping patterns all messed up!

And besides, I don't see it as any different to South Australia and Northern Territory being on a different time zone to us, and then Western Australia being yet another time zone! I used to work for a company that had head office in WA and it was not a drama at all - occasionally you'd forget and call early and get the answering machines, but it sure didn't effect our business.

Ooops I tend to get a little emotional about this because even now - 20 odd years later its still really vivid in my memory!

(Can you tell I really hate being outside in the middle of the day and know that my precious little Miss G who has translucent white skin - exactly like her dad who has had severe cancers removed and is lucky to be alive - would not cope at all in the heat, regardless of covering up and sun protection etc!)

I'll get off my soap box now ROFL!!

Somebody told me the other day why QLD doesn't have daylight savings time, but I can't remember why....
What does Tweed Heads do (for the non Aussies - Tweed Heads is on the border of Queensland and New South Wales) - do they stay open till 6pm NSW time to continue trading with QLD???

Kari, I never thought about that! Poor doggie!

Another Arizonan here, so it doesn't change for us, but half the year we're Pacific and the other half we're on Mountain time. I sometimes have to ask my husband which time we're on because I don't want to bug my friends and family living in different states by calling them too early or late.

Yes, and my dog - who practically has a clock built into her stomach - cannot understand why she is no longer getting her dinner at what SHE thinks is 6:00! We have to gradually transition her towards the time change - dinner at 5:15, then 5:30, then 5:45...

yes, but not in the state of Arizona!

And our daylight savings time dates are different - Americans don't "fall back" until next Sunday.

Just curious (no surprise there)

The clocks went back an hour this morning and the girls and cat are completely befuddled.

Do the clocks change where you are?
