I'd be interested to hear if the panhandlers are back now that the skaters have been banned, or if the skaters kept skating anyway... We should put that on our list of things to check out next summer!

Ok, I couldn't handle waiting so I googled the Miley-Kevin connection. Drum roll...

• Miley Cyrus voiced a character in Bolt with
• John Travolta who was in The Thin Red Line with
• Sean Penn who was in Mystic River with
• Kevin Bacon

I suppose we should take this "off forum" since it has become a sister chat.

Sadly, the city won. When I lived downtown, I used to love walking home through that park. It was always filled with skaters -- such fun to watch, and they always paused to let you pass. Prior to their reign (and perhaps now, haven't been there in a while) the park belonged to panhandlers. :(

I have completely dropped out of the movie-going scene in recent years, so my Six Degrees abilities are pretty limited if you name anyone as young as Miley Cyrus. Who can take this one on?

Yes, Kevin is a Philadelphia native. His father, Edmund, was a legendary city planner who was responsible for many of the city's finer aspects.

(Trivia note for skateboarding fans who followed the famous "LOVE Park" controversy in Philadelphia a few years back: Edmund Bacon skateboarded in LOVE Park in protest of the ban in 2002. He was 92 years old.)

I watched that movie with Jamie Lee Curtis and John Travolta at a friend's house when we were in high school. It was probably one of the worst, but funniest movies ever. I recall my ultra prudish friend being aghast at how high cut JLC's leotard was.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089798/

I am not a fan of any of these movies. Musicals and other singy-dancey movies aren't really my thing. But it was fun to watch each one in tiny spurts.

So Angie, as Kristen said, you name any actor and try to get back to Kevin Bacon within six steps. For example, suppose I said Debra Winger. Debra Winger was in Terms of Endearment with John Lithgow, who was in Footloose with Kevin: two degrees.

Giovanni Ribisi. He was in Avatar with Sigourney Weaver, she was in Alien with Paul Reiser, Paul Reiser was in Diner with Kevin Bacon: three degrees.

If you know movies, you can generally get to Kevin within six degrees.

Have to appreciate the love for Kevin Bacon -- he's a hometown boy and sightings are common. Over the years, I've spotted KB at the science museum and the train station.

That's an awesome video Mae, thank you so much for sharing! I have seen most of those movies, some of them even a couple of times. The absolute record is probably held by Strictly Ballroom which I believe I have seen more than 20 times.

Ha! I love that game, April.

Angie, Six Degree of Kevin Bacon says that you can name any actor or actress and link them via co-stars back to Kevin Bacon in less than six movies. He has actually had a surprisingly prolific career and has worked with a huge variety of stars. It's a fun game to play. Try it, name someone!

THAT was killer. I have seen every one of those movies at least 1 to 100 times (bar one movie which I do not recognize). Have a soft spot for the classics like White Nights, Moulin Rouge and Singing in Rain. Go dilly over Travolta in Grease and Saturday Night Fever. Have heart palpitations when I see Footloose, Thriller and Flashdance. Can't help but love Dirty Dancing.

Thanks, Mae. I'm not a dancer but I love watching dance movies.
