Sihaya, what a perfectly lovely thread. I'm glad you've successfully come through some scary and challenging times and you can put them behind you.

Joy is a funny thing. It can surprise you at the most mundane moment and yet can sometimes be hard to find when you're looking for it.

My happiness comes from so many sources. The big ones? My wonderful and healthy family, having a job that makes a difference, a place to live that I love, and friends who know me and love me no matter what.

The small ones? Seeing the crescent moon setting over the trees as I walked back from the barn tonight. Gathering eggs and watching the chickens scratch under the trees. My new car. A rerun of an old movie on TV. New clothes from NAS.

So many things to be thankful for~

What a great thread! I have to remind myself frequently to focus on the positive, not just the negative. Reading everyone's reasons for happiness is so affirming and adds a special depth to the ylf group.

I have loved reading everyone's posts. Sihaya, you have given us all a gift by starting this thread! Things making me happy right now:

1. Of course the health of my family and friends. And me.

2. A HUGE part of my current happiness is that my brother and his family moved from Boston to Boulder, CO last month. Being able to actually visit them on a weekend without trekking cross-country is thrilling. My nephew is 4 and my niece 2 1/2 and they just grow up so fast. I love them to pieces.

3. While I'm not particularly happy at work now for a variety of reasons, I am happy to have started something of my own as well as to have perhaps some other opportunities on the horizon. That said, I am happy that I do generally have a job working for people who care about me, and a job at all, of course.

4. I'm also happy to have made YLF a larger part of my life on a more consistent basis. I'm working towards feeling like Louise - loving what is in my closet and always having something to wear!

I know there are other things, but those are the ones that come to mind!

Wow, what a gift to wake up to this thread filled with joy, wisdom, and delight. Thank you for sharing some more suhshine. Teresa so nice to see you after a hiatus. I'm sorry to hear about your challenges and so glad to hear you are coming out through them. Marlene, Laura, and Tanya really glad to hear that you are both at the light at the end of the tunnel too. AJ, I love your view on what happens when you say you're happy. Katja congrats on the weight loss. And Phew to those of you who have also had a clean bill of health after recent scares. Louise, I'll have to send you jokes in the future and also add the wardrobe item to my list of luckies. Laura and crwilson congrats on your writing progress. That is my next venture, I just talked to someone who helps with book proposals. Patience your description of your kids made me just smile - how wonderful to be able to do that and your DH is so lucky to have your support. Elpgal, my fingers are crossed for you! Big hugs.

Carole, Taylor, Debbie, Katiepea - I loved the reminder in your posts of the people who really matter in our lives and to savor them.

Fi, congrats on your UK paperwork! I know how challenging that can be. That's a major milestone.

Mac - I love the idea of adding volunteer work to my list. You inspired me to look for some more this weekend.

Rosie and Juile and all of you - thank you for validating what I wrote. I was a little concerned that especially in these economic circumstances I might come across as gloating over people less fortunate. Instead what I'm learning is that no matter the circumstances we can look for and find joy - sometimes in the big things in life and sometimes in the smallest ways. Thank you!

Sihaya sending you some great big hugs! I am so happy to hear that you are doing better and I truly believe that when we are capable of stopping and appreciating the joy in our life its a sure sign we are on the right track - so I just know that your journey from here on out is going to be so fab.

I've really enjoyed reading the things bringing you all so much happiness.

Right now, in my life - well I have so many things that make me happy!

- I'm finally feeling loads better after my bout of pneumonia - I am really appreciating health at the moment and determined to look after my body.

- my beautiful girls - Em is 6 tomorrow and doing marvellously in life. Georgie is 4 and despite her issues, she is such a delight.

- knowing that all of the major decisions I have made over the past couple of years (and there's been a few!), have all turned out to be the perfect decision for my life.

- that on November 12th I will officially be divorced - this is a weird one cos we still get on fine and its very amicable, so it hasn't been a long drawn out, nasty proceeding, but more just the ability to close that chapter for me is the big deal.

And lastly (well, no, there's tonnes of other things but I'm not going to bore you all to death!)...

Finding YLF - seriously this has one of the biggest sources of joy for me this year - I have found "me" (well, kinda still in the process, but at least I have direction now!) and its all thanks to you guys!

Sihaya what a heart warming tale
My things that make me happy are fairly simple
#1 met one of BF relatives last night who is as dizzy as me and doesn't get the punchline of jokes till 10 minutes later then laughs hysterically just like me and has guilable stamped through the middle of her like brighton rock just like me!
#2 I have 1 week left of work before the school summer holidays
#3 I open my wardrobe and don't say"I've got nothing to wear' even though it's full of clothes x

Sihaya, you have a LOT to celebrate. I hope that in the future when you feel down again or have rough times, you can call on this positive energy from now (my best wishes included) and bring on the sun.

Right now being assertive makes me happy. Today what makes me happy is playing Mouse Trap with my kids, watching my kids eat ice cream like rock stars, supporting my husband who is going through a really rough work week and setting my 7 month old loose on the world and watching him explore.

I'm grateful because:
-- My extended family is in good health. And I know with aging, inevitably, that won't be the case forever.
-- I have interesting work, and a couple of ideas for books that are exciting to me.
-- I am surrounded by a loving family. That is the most important thing in the world!

Still a ways to go but I'm happy that everything is heading in the right direction. Plus the sunny weather doesn't hurt!

Sihaya I'm so glad to read that you are feeling well and happy - it can be tough to recover after going through a difficult period in your life.

The things I am grateful for and makes me happy:
1. Loving and being loved by my beautiful husband and boys;
2. Looking around my home and seeing its beauty and feeling safe;
3. Having the energy and vitality to go about my day and not feel (too) exhausted; and
4. The Tour de France is on (and I am SO gonna win that competition to get an all expenses paid trip there next year!)

I am glad that everything is going so well for you after what must have been a very tough time for you and your family.

Here are my happy things:

1. I recently organised a series of events at work that went fantastically well.
2. I passed my fundraising exam (the one I sat the day before I went to NZ.
3. I am now a permanent resident of the UK - in less than one year I will be a citizen.
4. My husband and I have really been enjoying summer in London - opera, theatre and BBQs with friends!
5. My family and friends are healthy, have jobs and are enjoying life.

There is a radio station in London that does this call in thing every Thursday called "Flash Thursday" where people ring in and say why they are feeling flash.

Congratulations Sihaya and everyone for your successes and happiness.

I am lucky and happy:

1. I have lost 27 pounds and two dress sizes this year, and am still going down.

2. Thanks to YLF and other style websites, I am paying more attention to my clothes, grooming and appearance than ever before, and am reaping the benefits (increased confidence and self-esteem, more compliments from others).

3. I, too, have just dodged the breast lump bullet, and it only took a week to confirm that the lump was benign.

4. I am getting physical stronger and more skilled in my sports, which is incredibly gratifying.

Thanks for sharing your happy feelings. It's so easy (at least it is, for me) to use the internet to vent and moan... which is all quite healthy, I think... but it's wonderful to also be reminded of the positive elements of life.

A few of the many things that make me happy these days:

1. Work is being done on the outside of my house. Yes, it's taking longer than I wanted and yes it's costing a pretty penny but I put it off for years and now, finally, it's being restored/ mended/ renewed. Rotting woodwork, peeling paint, wobbly railings... all gone.

2. I am in good health.

3. My finances are fine. So many people are having a dreadful time, financially, these days and my heart aches for them. I am happy that I have enough for myself and I'm extremely happy that with a bit of strategic choices, I can find a bit of money to donate to help others, too.

4. My volunteer work. Many people do much more of this than I. But even just a few hours/ month, in being of service to others, I find that I benefit enormously. I am reminded of how lucky I am (and yes, I see that LUCK has a lot to do with my comfortable situation: it was luck - not any skill or ability of mine - that meant that I was born into a loving family, didn't have any mental illnesses, haven't developed an addiction, haven't yet been struck with Alzheimers, wasn't abused as a child, live in a first world country, etc). I am happy and grateful to get these reality checks through volunteering.

5. Two dresses I bought at Target when i was last in the US. They cost me $24.99 each and are much prettier than the shorts and tank top combo I usually sport when the temperatures soar. I bought them in the maternity section (!) (no, I'm not preggers) so they are roomy enough to accommodate my size 16 body and long enough to look perfectly acceptable on my almost-6-foot frame. Even though I find this current heat wave difficult, these dresses allow me to remain cool and comfy and - relatively - attractive. That makes me happy : )

Sihaya, thank you for posting your aha moment. It is really special when you are able to stop the world spinning for one second and just appreciate your life for what it is right here and now. Long may it last. I believe it is called serenity.

My kids are doing well in life, school and work. They say you can only be as happy as your unhappiest child, and it is so true, but they are happy and so am I. Enjoying this time of my life when I can have time to do the things I've always dreamed of doing someday. Be creative, exercise, spending time with friends. When you go through any health crisis in your life or the life of someone you love, you really appreciate being able to function normally without that fear! So happy you have that scare behind you, Sihaya.

YLF has been such a boost in my life in so many ways. Not only has Angie and all of you been incredibliy helpful on my style journey, I also find refuge here during some moments when I'd a bit down. Well, the last 3 years or so have been some of the toughest in my life. And there have been more than one down moment where I have been able to distract and comfort myself by even browsing the forum and sometimes actively participating.

However, a light bulb went off for me today. Why not share when I'm having a moment - that's a great moment? There's a superstitious side of me that worries that if I say I'm happy, something else will rain down on me. But what the heck. I know that's not logical.

So I'm just writing to say that for the first time in a very long time, I feel like a big load has lifted off my shoulders. I was waiting for some paperwork that's really important to me and it went through (woohoo). I had a lump in my breast that after 6 weeks of waiting turned out to be benigh (woohoo). I've lost almost 10 lbs since November of last year thanks to Angie's help (woohoo). After a hectic spring of work related travel, I get to stay home and enjoy my children for 2 whole months (woohoo). And the sun is shining in the greater Seattle area (woohoo).

Thank you for reading this far. I don't always take the time to celebrate the positive as I'm working to resovle the stressors or on to the next hill I have to storm. So this feels good and a little awkward if I'm honest.

If you're still with me, I'm curious, what is making you happy in your life right now?
