Funny enough I just bought something from the Bay today...(A leopard print trench packable raincoat for my upcoming trip to Nova Scotia where rain is a given! LOL)

I find that some Bay's are better than others. Even in my city the Bay closest to my home seems to be the "poorer" cousin of the Bay at 2 other malls. They are neater, larger, better organized and I like shopping in them. I hate going to my own Bay, it's always a mess and frustrating to shop in. I usually avoid going there.

I'm definitely spoiled, because my office is a less than 10 minute walk from the Bay's flagship store in Toronto. That location has the best selection in everything from housewares to specialty size clothing, including a lot of really great little boutique-type areas that likely aren't appearing in other more remote stores. As a result of all this I've seen Bonnie's influence at work and feel its a good thing, but I can't speak to whether or not she's having a broader impact on the overall brand. Judging by the numbers, there's still work to be done. Here's another one hoping it can happen! Her career is certainly fascinating, and losing it would mark a sad end to a genuine Canadian institution.

I bought both my Jones New York and Calvin Klein suits at the Bay last month. I used to go to the Bay for baby gifts because they had a lot of made in Canada clothing and the fabric and quality was very good. The larger stores also have pretty good shoe selection. I missed Eaton's when it closed.

I hope the Bay makes it.

I just figured out why I
m interested in the behind the scenes of retailers---my Grandpa and Dad ran businesses--car dealerships. My Mom's dad traveled around selling suits to lumberjacks up in the bush and small town business people in his own men
s clothing store. There must be a genetic memory LOL---I don
t know why I never thought of it like that before. But unfortunately it doesn
t mean I can make change at the til hahaha.
When I first came here I had to ask what the Canadian equivalent of Nordie's was and HBC was the answer.
I was just looking up Bonnie Brooks the newish CEO of the Hudson`s Bay company -- also the voice behind the radio commercials. I checked her out while checking on the Target thread I posted earlier. Interesting lady and has been round--I hope she can make something of the Bay. http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/0.....f-the-bay/
Personally I don't shop there much--I get too overwhelmed and I also feel like I am not the target client in clothing but did get a great deal on Henckle knives a couple years back.
Seems the money from the sale of Zellers is going into a refurb of the HBC stores--got to put more life back into the company that was founded in 1670!
