Srujana, I'd highly recommend Canons because the lenses are so high quality even in point-and-shoot models, and even when I used a more basic PowerShot model, I noticed that the color tended to be more accurate than my friends' Olympus or Kodak cameras.

My mom just wanted a camera that would be an easy point-and-shoot that would take great pics, and she loves her Canon Powershot SD850 IS. I think that the Powershot SD940 is the update of that model, so might be worth a look. http://www.usa.canon.com/consu.....lDetailAct

Costco is actually a really good place to get cameras. You can touch them and see them and they have excellent prices.

Unfortunately, digital cameras don't seem to be forever cameras like the old film workhorses. I'm not sure why. They seem to have a shorter life and they seem very sensitive..? Like a bit of sand can ruin their auto/open lens.

You can look up lots of cameras here : http://www.dpreview.com/
I also have found the reviews at Amazon helpful, but like I said, I prefer Costco for the purchase, or a camera store. The Canon powershots are cute and efficient and I have a friend who loves her Panasonic Lumix. Just try and go for the most up to date versions, as they usually make improvements, just like with most digital equipment.

Just adding this: the iPhone actually takes really good pictures! (no zoom though) The brand new one even does video!

I use a Samsung NV10 camera (the first of that range that was released- has since been replaced with the NV12 and others in the range). The reason why I chose this camera was because it had fully adjustable manual settings such as shutter speed, white balance and ISO. It is a small slim compact camera and has its own internal battery that is charged off the mains or computer.

THANK YOU all so so much!! I prefer cameras with lithium ion batteries to the ones that use AA, but I'm Googling all of these right now... Hopefully I can pick one soon and get back to posting 'what i wore today' pics =)

I've got 2 Kodak ones. A Z885 and a Z740 both are point and shoot but the Z740 has the looks of a mini SLR. I've found them to be pretty self explainatary and pretty idiot proof. I bought both online direct from Kodak and they were brilliant when i needed to return a tripod which arrived broken x

I bought a new digital point & shoot just after Christmas. It was featured in a photography magainze that my sister subscribes to and got an excellent review. It's the Olympus FE-370 and has 8 MP and 5X zoom. It's very lightweight and fits easily in my purse.

http://www.olympusamerica.com/.....oduct=1397

I got mine at Best Buy, and though it appears they don't have that exact model anymore, they have something very similar (but with 12 MP instead of 8 MP) for about the same price I paid.

Good luck!

I have a Canon A590 IS. It's a point-and-shoot, but with the option of using attachable lenses and so on. I like it, the only thing that annoys me is that it uses regular AA batteries which die after about 200 shots. Buying rechargeable batteries would solve that problem, though. It's also not that slim, but definitely will fit in a purse!

I got a new Casio Exilim, after having my older model of the same camera for more than 5 years....only to have it break in less than 4 months. It died pretty much as soon as the 3 month warranty from Amazon.com expired. I've never bought electronics online and now I'm not sure I will again, but I desperately miss having a slim little point-and-shoot camera in my purse with me at all times. I've taken it to camera repair shops but it looks like the cost to fix is going to be as much as, if not more, than what i originally paid for it. =(

Do any of you use such cameras (as opposed to digital SLR's, etc?) and if so, could you please, please, please, recommend a brand/model that has worked well for you?
