Not that you want to do this to your pretty chair but I saw a couch before and after on Design Sponge recently where the owners actually painted their couch. You can get fabric additive and use a regular paint apparently.
My husband painted a chair for a project (in art school) and they didn't have the additive back then and it was too stiff but fun to look at. With the additive I guess it keeps the furniture soft.
Might be fun to try on a pillow or small chair seat for a quick change.

It's pretty cool that it was the DH who brought the chair in - that tells you to keep it

What a pretty chair. Good find. I buy a lot of furniture on kijiji. I find the older furniture has better wood and prefer it to new.

Great bones on the chair. Congrats on the assimilation into your home. I agree with Christianne if you learned upholstery it might eventually help in your business too. I've always wanted to learn, but was also intimidated.

I love chairs with this shape too! I have one kind of like it in my living room, only without the wicker-like sides, that is in desperate need of a slipcover or something. Out there in the wilds of the internet I have seen many people re-do these kinds of chair with paint, new upholstery, etc. and they always look so cool.

I like it - I think my mom had one the same but with a gold fabric. It was a classic looking chair.then and now. Memories :)
Have you taken an upholstery course? I've always thought it would be useful but seems intimidating.

I've been exploring my local thrift shops for items to take to the flea market- and having a ball doing it. I actually bought this chair to re-sell, even though I've been wanting a chair like this for years. When hubby decided to move the chair that had been in this spot out to the living room, and moved this one into it's place so he'd have somewhere to sit and out his shoes on- I wasn't going to complain! It looked pretty rough when I found it- dusty, scratched and stained cushions. A good vacuuming, an application of scratch coat, and a gentle cleaning with dishsoap, and it looks great! Maybe some day in the future I will have it re-done, but for now I am happy to add this little beauty to my sanctuary.
