I honestly can not thank you all enough. I phoned the Dr's at 8:00 am this morning but was unable to get an appointment with a female GP. The receptionist believes that if I phone first thing on Wednesday I should be able to get a cancellation. I will not wait forever but I am prepared to wait a couple of days to see my preferred Dr.

Thank you so much for your support!

Definitely see a doctor! I went through early menopause in my 30s and some of the symptoms were the same. It could be nothing at all but it's not something to mess around with, take care of yourself and go get checked out.

FWIW, I waited to have fibroids addressed and regretted it because the solution was easy in comparison to the symptoms. Don't know if that is what you are experiencing, but it could be. I hope you can find an answer as well as relief.

I hope this helps: Weird things started happening to me in my mid-30s. I went off birth control pills because that was more or less the "rule" then and because I was having migraines. Everything was okay for a while but then I started having heavy periods (and still had the headaches.) It was hormonal--just the way my body dealt with the oncoming menopause. It sounds like you still don't have the right combination and dosage in your bc pills.

And the right thing to do is see a good gynecologist. This may be nothing more than a hormonal imbalance that can be adjusted, but you need to know for sure. That will be one less thing to cause stress in your life. Good luck.

Julie, I am so sorry that you are still under such a great deal of stress. I know some people are prone to discount stress as something that is artificial or that we should be able to control, but it can take a huge toll on us physically as well as mentally and emotionally. (I've been incredibly stressed for full on a year and also struggled with some intense depression, and I'm also a horrible stress eater/snacker, and essentially wreacked havoc on my body.)

Please do go see a doctor - the other girls have given you very sound and caring advice on that front. I'm especially ultra-cautious at the moment as one of my friends and coworkers recently was diagnosed with early stage ovarian cancer following a bout of suspicious bleeding, and it was truly a godsend that she went in to get it checked out early because they were able to catch it before it had spread, which is incredibly rare. I don't say that to scare you as I know it's unlikely that is what is going on; it's just that I would feel more peace of mind as someone who cares for you, and I'm sure your family certainly would as well, if you went in just to make sure that everything was okay, and possibly got some suggestions to help deal with or avoid the symptoms that you've been experiencing.

Big, big hugs to you.

First of all, Julie, you *are* our friend. :)
If you're looking for a descenting voice, you sure won't find it here...get thee to a doctor, and get thyself there stat! I had some similar symptoms, particularly the heavy bleeding, and to be honest they began raising merry hell with my body. Doctors visits, ultrasounds and the like revealed a massive uteran fibroid that pretty much explained everything. The doctors visit got time-consuming, and the fibroid couldn't be removed without a couple of surgeries, but all of that is a drop in the bucket compared to the discomfort and distress I would have felt if I'd let things go. Isabel's right; neither you nor Ben + the girls deserve that. :)
*Hugs* I'm sure you're feeling overwhelmed and maybe even alarmed after reading all our accounts, but so often these things are eminently treatable. We're here for you!

This is *really* what I needed to hear, I will be phoning the GP first thing on Monday with the hope of gaining a referral.

I promise to keep you posted.

BJ, I have tried an IUD but my body rejected it.

Steph, of course you are right, my symptoms started at the same time Teah's autism assessment began so it was easy for me to connect the effects to stress but now my stress levels are much lower and the symptoms worse. I do need to see my doctor.

I agree, a visit to the doctor is in order. I have had some similar abdominal issues related to fibroids and an ovarian cyst -- the cyst went away on its own, but it required ultrasound tests, etc., to verify it was benign. Better to check anything like this out. I think it's more stressful (and therefore harder on your body and health) to carry around the worrying of not knowing what's going on.

Seriously, this really sounds like something that needs to be sorted out. Please hurry up and go. See someone else if your GP is not responsive. In my experience when you appear young and healthy doctors sometimes have a hard time catching onto a real problem.

This is going to sound harsh, as 'stress' as a catch-all drives me nuts. But - 'stress' isn't at all likely to cause bloating which is visible only on one side. I know you realize this, Jules, as you wrote it in your OP with the express intention of getting yourself motivated to see the doc! Good for you!

**** rant on ****
My mom had four separate bone fractures in the space of a year and a half before i called the doc and raised hell. Mom kept saying it was due to 'stress', and the docs were not keeping track. Turns out mom had bone thinning - now that she has taken meds to strengthen her bones they can take the stress of walking half an hour a day without breaking.

Of course everyone's life is "stressful" - but that doesn't mean that you should be feeling miserable, either. If you have persistent noticeable symptoms it's worthwhile to see a medical pro to rule out any physical causes. I hate going to the doc, too (more than you know), but in certain matters it's the only way to get things done.

And if your stress is so bad you're in constant pain, your bod is visibly distorted, can't sleep/eat/etc. then you could really use a plan to deal with your stress. Docs should know this and do something about it, sadly many do not (or don't have the time to). In this case you have to find your own resources.

**** end of rant ****

Jules, i hope that you feel tons better really quick! And i hoop everyone here takes good care of themselves so they can feel their best as well!! steph

It's never a bad thing to go visit your doc...get there soon!

My docs, especially my son's pediatrician when he was young, never minded an unecessary visit but got really angry when people came in too late as it was so much more severe and harder to treat.

Take care and don't worry about it, that's your doc's job.

I agree, Jules, it's important to find out what's causing this. Even if it's "just" stress-related, the physical discomfort and worrying are definitely adding to your stress levels.

I hope the doctors will be able to get to the bottom of this soon. Hang in there and hugs!

YES! See the doctor, as soon as possible! And DEFINITELY request an ob-gyn recommendation (unless you already have one) to make certain-sure.

Yes, stress can cause all sorts of weirdness but some of your symptoms *are* the kind to worry about. So a false alarm is worth the risk in this case.

I work in healthcare. I only see my doctor when absolutely necessary, and even then I don't want to. Please see your doctor.

Whether it is caused by stress or not, it is a problem for you that needs treatment. Please take the great advice here and see a doctor. If your regular GP poo poos, then find another one. I know it isn't fair, but I much prefer to see female doctors. My GP is only a few years older than me and we relate.

Let us know how it goes please.
