What a fun project! (It's every girl's dream. Squee!)

I think ManidipaM's advice is spot on: If the curtains are open, you don't want the color of your clothes to clash with the curtains and wall color. Don't forget to think about the lighting/window and placement of a long mirror, too.

I think if you're set on the zebra curtains, I'd wonder about creating different atmospheres, like so:
- calming: a soft, light wall color like a pale green, baby yellow or soft beige, a big landscape picture on the wall, a white upholstered chair
- luxurious: dark blue, bright red, bright pink, or yellow grey walls, several gold framed pictures, maybe a bench or big pouf made of leather, large mirror with golden ornamental frame
- girly: pink, red or orange walls, maybe a chandelier, a voluminous chair, a small table with flowers
- minimalist/practical: white or light grey walls (to match the white and silver from the ikea shelves), a wooden chair, a modern painting with a thin silver frame, mirror with wooden frame
... you get the idea ;)

There are two tools I have enjoyed a lot for finding new and exciting color combinations (they're fun for outfits, too!):
1. http://bighugelabs.com/colors.php - you input a photo/picture you like, and they extract the main colors from it (you could do this with a picture of your closet!)
2. http://www.swatchspot.com - generates random color palettes or combinations based on several colors you choose

Have fun with this project!

Buttery yellow, caramel, shell pink...there are so many options for paint with the zebra patterned fabric. Have fun with it. I envy you having an extra bedroom to turn into a walk-in closet. Lucky woman!

Sveta, since zebra is after all a neutral that should play will with most everything, might I suggest approaching it from a slightly different angle? What colour are most of your clothes?

If I had a lot of neutrals in my wardrobe, I might want to add a little colour to my closet interiors. Like a middle intensity of teal, blue, yellow or pink, or a dramatic red or purple. Some links below:

http://www.interiorholic.com/p.....sign-1.jpg

http://blog.vastudc.com/tag/animal-print/

http://www.archithings.net/the.....-selection

http://classifieds.weddingbee......ffany-blue

http://blog.arcadianlighting.c.....-Print.jpg

On the other hand, if many of my clothes were colourful, I'd want them to pop against the background, and use grey (black and white are easier, but harder and safer respectively). Like so:

http://blog.arcadianlighting.c.....-Print.jpg

http://blog.arcadianlighting.c.....-Print.jpg

http://cdn.freshome.com/wp-con.....071474.jpg

Have fun!

I agree with Isabel--zebra is a neutral and a bright like yellow would look awesome with it. Looking forward to pics, Sveta! And congrats--I'm starting to upgrade my closet and it's so exciting.

What a great idea.

I think that anything goes with the zebra. It seems like a neutral to me. As long as you don't do "dainty" prints or wall paper...you can't go wrong !

I want to convert my empty small bedroom into a walk in closet. I don't want to install cabinets there - just rail system from Ikea (pic 1). I also want to use curtains to close them off - to keep the dust out ans also to look nicer. As this is such a small room and I am having fun with fashion I want it to be fun. I spend all day today looking for curtain fabric and have 2 options:
1. bold b/w zebra print
2. fun abstract print of pink and red-purple pattern on a tan background. (don't have a picture)

If I go with #2 I think I will paint the walls buttery yellow to complement the purple.
However I am not sure what color walls can go with zebra print? Any ideas?

Thanks!
