Your examples are very compelling Carol! I hope you find some organza and show us what you do with it!

Ooo! I love seeing this fabric again. I'm an 80s and 90s kid. When I was 8 or 9, I had a piano recital. My mom found me this taffeta dress on clearance. (I grew up dirt poor, so this was a big deal.) The dress had a black velvet bodice. The skirt was a bubble skirt was cobalt blue with velvet scroll work on it. The sleeves were short or elbow length, and also bubble shaped. I miss the interesting fabrics we used to have. Everything is more casual and wash-n-wear these days, it seems.

Organza is such an '80s fabric :)

It's expressive, and it makes sense that you like it, Carol!

It can be scratchy to wear as a top, so I'm warning you. You can create a similar effect with chiffon, which is much, much softer. Granted, chiffon does not hold its shape the same way organza does.

I think you could definitely pull it off in a cretive way...as in photo 9. It's a gorgeous fabric, but of course quite delicate. An organza blouse with a floor sweeping skirt is a great look for a ball.

I looked up organza yesterday to remind me what it was (a stiff, gauzy fabric made from a variety of materials), and it was so beautiful that I ended up clicking on photo after photo and wondering if and how it would fit into my life.

The nicer versions are like art pieces, and the cheaper versions are compelling enough. The wraps are most appealing to me--I don't think they do much in terms of warmth, but have major visual impact.

They look, at first glance, like they only belong at galas. But I think a creative person, an irreverent person, a bold person might be able to pull it off in a more casual way. Perhaps with a leotard and pleated skirt...or a gothy black tank dress and boots...I bet there are a million ways.
