I'd be curious about a $200-$300 shearling aviator too. The real shearlings I look at every winter are closer to $1000, I don't have that kind of cash to drop on a coat even if it does last the next 20 years.

I'd like to see pis too, Sharon.

I don't think that the right shearling jacket will date all that fast.

Youblocka is right, this is always around and is somewhat of a "classic" look for me

I've been looking for "just" the right shearling coat for many years now. When I find it I'm going to snatch it up and wear it every year for many years too! It's one of those things to me that would look good, trending, or not if the jacket is fairly classic itself.

Any pics of your choices?

Thanks, I was coming to the same conclusion, Tam. A detachable collar is a great idea- I will look out for one.

I guess this is a "passing on a trend" reason- not enough bang for my buck!

I would look for one where the shearling collar is detachable.

I like the look of these, and think they are always around in some, shape or form, although not as prominent as they are at the moment. I can see the appeal of a shearling leather jacket...lovely and warm! But if you are going to spend $200-300 on it you'd want it to be something wonderful that you know you will love and wear year in, year out despite current trends. Hope that makes sense, I'm starting to ramble aren't I!

I am noticing that you can't walk into a shop at the moment without seeing an aviator jacket with a shearling collar. I think they look quite cute, and was toying with the idea of adding it to my winter wish list.

My concern is that this will be a trendy thing that will come and go in a season and leave me looking impossibly dated next year! Most of the jackets I see are in the $200-$300 range, so it's a lot of money if it's not going to last the distance.

I don't actually own a leather jacket and I think I would like to add one to my wardrobe, but I'm not sure if this would be the smartest way to do it.

Would appreciate your thoughts and opinions.
