Angie, you read my mind! That is exactly the combo that I am leaning towards as well. And I LOVE burgundy lipstick. For a long time, burgundy/raisin was the only shade I would wear, and I still like it best.

I vote the nude shoes, long pendant necklace, burgundy bag, burgundy lipstick. This is going to be an 11 out of 10!

Like this dress & good solution for the fix. I think it would look great with contrasting bright shoes & belt in a bright colour with purple bag.

Good work! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Most of the rumpling in the back is due to the top being too long for your frame.

Even so, you look pretty in this dress. Wear and enjoy!

OK, so I sewed the button placket shut up to about halfway, and I think it helps! There is still excess fabric but at least it is no longer gaping.

Why not try the sewing and see how it goes, and if it doesn't seem to work that well, try on the wrap and show us? Ideally you could just let the dress shine and not bother with the wrap (though I'm the one who suggested it), so try that route first I think.

Thanks, Jem. I'll definitely try sewing it then. I'm hoping it will make it more blousey and less gapey if that makes any sense.

Re: wraps - I have this burgundy one that is a pretty good match for the bag. It's just deep enough that it will cover up the back of the dress. Do you guys think it will work?

I think the dress looks great on you! I love the color! If you can get the dress on without undo-ing the buttons, you can definitely sew the placket shut! I think that would prevent the gaping and make the back look much better! It wouldn't take very long to hand stitch even just the gaping part, closed and then you will know. I'd try it for sure!

Try a wide belt; it looks like the extra fabric could be folded down and disguised. I don't think sewing it would help the current problem as there is no gapping, just too long in the back bodice pieces.

I like the shorter necklace and nude shoes best, as they look a little dressier and lovely in proportion to the shape of the dress, and also summery with the open toes.

Not crazy about any of the bags really, but see next paragraph.

Thinking of belt options: do you have any scarves that would be long enough, silky/shiny enough to bring in some other colors like plum, navy and cream, tieing the purple bag and the nude shoes to the blue? Then you may have to go with gold jewelry since the clasp on the plum bag is gold.

Fab color on you !! It is strange that if fits so well in the front..and then the back seems too long. I agree with the back. Sona may have a good idea there. Personally, I don't feel comfortable with dresses that bunch in the back. But with that said, I am not sure that I have ever noticed it on other people. ( I notice it on me ). Do you have a belt or even a thick ribbon that you could use and that way the back would look like a blouson effect ?

Now to throw you totally off, I like the red jewel tone bag. I like the idea of all jewel tones. I like both shoes, but agree with the others that the nude are especially great. I am not sure about the necklace since you have detail around the waist, maybe just the chain.

Diana, I think the dress looks divine on you. Definitely get it altered later to perfect the fit in the back waist; but for now, would a slim, sheer scarf that you carried across the back and on your forearm/elbow help as disguise, doubling up as a light wrap in case there IS air-conditioning?

For the rest, I vote grey shoes and gold pendant like Tanya, but am veering towards the wine/purple bag.

ETA: Another option to hide the extra fabric in back would be a belt, especially a metallic one (in which case, default to the shorter necklace possibly).

The white bag is actually very pale silver... but I think it still works.

Sona, I actually just tried it on without undoing most of the buttons and I can get it on, so I was actually considering sewing most of the button placket shut, which might make it lay better? Hopefully Amy or another one of our sewing experts will chime in and let me know if that would work!

I am attending a wedding this Saturday in NJ. The weather forecast says is is going to be EXTREMELY hot (high of 102). I think both the ceremony and the reception are going to be primarily indoors although I do not know if the chapel has AC.

Anyway, here is a dress that I thought I might wear, although I think it may have an issue with fit. This is a vintage silk dress from the 80's (it had enormous shoulder pads which I removed) that was given to me by my mom. The color is a royal blue, with undertones of purple. I love the draping, shape, and fabric. However, I just noticed when trying it on that the fit at the back is a bit odd; I think there is too much length. Is this a dealbreaker should I get this altered or just consign it? In which case, I'd have to choose something else for this wedding... likely a black dress.

If the back thing is not a dealbreaker, I've also tried it with two different pairs of shoes (nude and grey) and two different necklaces (medium length silver and long gold pendant). I have other necklaces as well, just wanted to try the different lengths. And, finally, the last photo is my three evening bags, none of which are really doing it for me with this dress. Which would you choose?

ETA: question for the sewing experts. I am considering sewing the button placket on the back shut. I can get it on with undoing only the top button and the zipper/hook below the waist. Will sewing the button placket shut help smooth out the back?
