I have the same problem with shirts in the back. I'm not sure what the solution is. Some fabric just seems more inclined to grab rather than slide over my bottom. But, let's celebrate that you have identified a good source for the future!

That was quick! Got the parcel with the plaid shirt today. Unfortunately it's going back. It's slightly tight in the hips and there's a lot of fabric in the back. Easy fixes, but the color is also way more oxblood red than I had thought. The quality is really lovely however, so I'm tempted to try some more things of them in the future.

Thanks Debbie! That's true. I'm definitely going to keep looking for a scarf to fill this function and I might go back to this one later on when I have the more urgend wardrobe holes filled.

Thanks Crutcher. I just saved the pictures from the website on my computer via right-click and then uploaded them again when I wrote the post. I don't use the YLF finds at all because I don't shop at the US stores that are supported for that feature.

Thanks Jackie! I ordered only the plaid shirt. I hope it works!

Love the plaid shirt and the scarf. When you have a limited amount of clothes. Accessories help them go farther.
I am glad you ordered the plaid shirt.

Thanks Suz! Very wise words, I agree with everything you said. I just ordered the plaid shirt in two sizes. I hope one of them works out. I think you all were right about the tee and I can always wait until the ones I have truly need to be replaced. And the scarf would have probably been lovely, but I think the money is better spent budgeting it towards that new pair of jeans I'm still looking for.

The plaid shirt and scarf look like good options but I question the tee for the reasons the others said.

In your situation (limited budget PLUS the need to buy quite a lot of clothes having changed sizes PLUS desire to shop eco-friendly ) I would probably do some prioritizing.

For totally needed items (like winter coats) I would AIM to be eco friendly this round, but if that were not possible within my budget, I would aim at least for ethical production in other ways.

For mid-priced essential items (like shirts) I might make a greater effort for eco-friendliness.

For simple layering tees, I might be willing to forego eco friendliness for now until my next phase of wardrobe building, since these can be obtained relatively cheaply and they wear out so quickly. By the time you are ready to replace, you might have the budget to be more eco-aware on these as well.

Thanks Viva and Kelly! I'm thinking about trying both the scarf and the plaid shirt...

Thanks Sara! Yes, I guess that's true. But I'm good at rationalizing...

Thanks Texstyle! Yes, I think I won't order the tee.

Thanks Kiki! Yes, I agree with you on the tee. I'm not sure what dress you mean, I think that might have been someone else. I did have a grey checked one that I've handed down to my sister, but that looked different. I guess I can always look at Etsy or Dawanda or something like that, but I don't think I'm going to pay less for a handmade scarf there. I don't have great shops for thrifting here, so that's not really an option.

Thanks Gradfashionista. It is the standard policy so you can return within 14 days. I'm probably going to try the scarf and the plaid shirt and order two sizes to compare. I can always return one or both pieces.

I like 3 and 4, but would only get 1/2 if you thought you would wear it frequently. Long sleeves aren't as versatile as short sleeves when it comes to layering because of the extra bulk. What's the return policy? When I have sale goggles, I hold onto the object for a bit, and if my enthusiasm wanes, the garment is returned.

I see the tee as a summer piece for you, with slouchy pants, with the sleeves pushed up. I think the color would be great for you. But the question is, do you want to spend money now for a top that will be too chilly to wear for 6 months in your climate?

Isn't the plaid in the shirt almost exactly the plaid in your pinafore dress that is so cute on you from a couple of seasons ago?

Another way to approach the eco emphasis is to buy things from artists and craftspeople who have made things themselves. It can be great fun to buy something directly from the maker. I wonder if you could source a pretty handknitted scarf in pretty jewel tones.

Also, is thrifing an option for you? Cutting off a sweater at just below the arms would create a scarf-like tube of warmth.

I like the plaid shirt and scarf. The tee does seem kind of basic to me and the neckline worries me, not just for cold, but for bra straps showing. I've had a couple of tees with larger rounded necklines like this and it was problematic to me.

One thing to watch is whether the neckline on the top may be a bit chilly without an underlayer in the winter months. That depends on how warm or cool you run.

Thanks Diane. I'd see the cotton top mostly over jeans or my slouchy pants, alone. Or with the grey wool cardigan layered over? Maybe I shouldn't buy it just because of the color... Although it is the most inexpensive piece, the tee and the scarf are together just a bit more expensive than the plaid shirt. Oh and the quality should be good. I have never ordered there before, but it's a very well known firm that has been around in Germany for many years.

Well, they are all good pieces and your kind of colours. I really love the look of the plaid shirt and the scarf. Would the cotton top be a good piece for stand alone and layering as well? I'm wondering if it could even be used under the plaid shirt and wear the shirt as a jacket perhaps. Make sure the quality is good too.

You know that I recently decided to shop eco brands whenever possible and the prices are definitely higher than I'm used to. So I fear I might have had my sales goggles on when I was looking at these pieces online.

The first is a simply longsleeved T-shirt. I have two in my wardrobe, a navy one and the white one with the black stripes. I really like the color of this one. But, is it maybe too basic? It's cotton.

The second one is this plaid flannel shirt. I really like the colors. It would replace my old LE flannel shirt that looks too pajama like for my tastes now and is too big besides.

Third is this wool loop scarf. It's lambswool with a bit of cashmere mixed in. The only warm winter scarves I have right now are oversized, so this would be a smaller option to wear with my puffer coat for example, when I want to wear the scarf inside the coat. Or just when it's not that cold outside. I do have other scarves I could wear for this purpose, but they are all cotton or viscose so not as warm.

What do you think? I'm tempted to try these, but I'm not sure if it's just the temptation of the sale.

ETA

I ordered the plaid shirt in two sizes. I hope one of them works out.

Thanks for your input! :)
