I am too annoyed with this pinning situation. I tend to look for garments with waist definition and am very often fooled by how it fits on the mannequins.

Too bad about this jacket, I thought it was very cute.

Thanks Angie! And since you bring it up- why do they DO that?? (pin garments on models to give them a more flattering shape). I frequently see tops on mannequins or on models which look great....only to walk around the mannequin and notice that it has been pinned in three places, or try it on myself and have it fit completely differently.

I mean, I understand that mannequins and models do not represent the average body shape, but if a top doesn't fit them properly then who WAS it styled to flatter?

Quite right. Pass on this style. Had it on several women including myself and nothing to write home about. I think it’s pinned for extra shape on the model.

Ana, you are awesome! I bet it would do the exact same thing on me. I was worried that the opening in the front, which is super cute on the models, wouldn't really fall right on someone with a larger bust.....and it seems like it did just that. There is only one J.Crew in my area, so trying it on isn't really an option- thus I think I'll pass.

You saved me, thank you!!

I tried this jacket on in the store--I'm an hourglass with a C chest, and it wasn't flattering at all. The fabric is a thick knit which puffed out in the front and on the sides. It went over my chest in the front, and instead of hanging straight down or coming in a little, it actually went out, so from the side it looked like a tent, and not in a purposeful, voluminous sort of way. Make sense? Also, the sleeves weren't fitted at all, they were sort of loose as well, like bracelet sleeves. And they were long on me. I think this jacket would be most flattering on someone who has a very small chest and long arms.

Since all the sale items on the J. Crew site are non-returnable at this point, I'd either take a pass or see if you could try it on in person somehow. Voluminous silhouettes are tricky in that you really need to try them on and see which ones will work for you, because not all of them work on every body type. Is there more than one J. Crew in your town?

My main concern is the horizontal stripe. I am not a big fan of horizontal stripes on most women.

Soooo, I'm on a semi-shopping ban myself (like a few other ladies on here), but the J.Crew 25% off sale is realllly hard to resist! I've been looking for a chic sweater or light jacket for the fall, and am thinking that something like this might be a good addition:

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat303138

I tried to find the jacket at my local J.Crew so I could try it on, but it's only online now. I'm a little concerned that it might be a cut that works best on very slim body types. I'm an hourglass with a D bust. What do you think, does the cut look tricky?
