I'm LOLing at the idea of articles on how to get bigger hips! Clearly people looking for that advice have never been jean shopping with me. But who knows, maybe my body type will be in vogue for some portion of my lifetime. Again, I'm laughing and joking, so please know I'm not beating myself up. I know I kinda bitch about this aspect of my body, but it is usually not an easy thing to dress (just as I know that broad shoulders or a tummy, etc., are not easy either!). I almost always opt for things that provide some sort of optical illusion -- more vertical lines, solid dark colors on bottom, etc. Sometimes I do depart from that, so a bodycon shape is not always a deal breaker.

I promise, I'll show this to my in-house fashion consultant before I decide anything. If he loves it, it would definitely inspire me to give it another chance, and to see if I can figure out how to keep it from riding up.

I really appreciate all the feedback! You are are great.

Karen, I like those WHBM dresses, but I would like something with sleeves, and the sleeved dress appeals to me, but it's too short for me. That kind of length looks all wrong on me -- a knee length or midi is much better. And much harder to find!

I think it's beautiful on you. Really highlights your flat abs and lifted booty. (I'm saying that in a non-creepy way, promise.)

And I"m not sure why, but my Pinterest keeps showing me articles about "How to Get Bigger Hips" or "How to Make Your Hips Look Wider." If you Google that, you will find more of the same. Many in the younger generations seem obsessed with hips! Maybe look at a few of those articles and see yourself with new appreciation. ;-)

I'm way late to this but I'd like to add my 2c in , if I may :
1. You often carry on about your hips and thighs ( I say this with love and affection ) but I have never , ever seen what you see . Now here, in this dress, yes. You do have a curvy lower body , BUT your narrow waist and flat abs counteract any uh, what do I want to say here .....effect of heaviness . There is no doubt that the dress highlights that part of your body , but I have to agree with Angie in saying that it's incredibly feminine and sexy , and it's actually more interesting looking than it would be on the " ideal " ( and that's not even right ) slim- hipped , small breasted figure . I think you look absolutely beautiful and you need to own it . The riding -up part is another story though and that would make me crazy . Not sure if there is a solution to that .

Add me to list of people who think you rock this dress. But the ride up could be a deal breaker, if it isn't hidden by the pattern of the floral and requires constant tugging. So walk around normally and see if you can find the fab.

Did you see either of these two top picks from WHBM? They aren't quite the same but would look great on you if you decide against this one.

Too bad it rides up, because it looks great on you. For date night, not work It's so weird about women and our bodies. Those of us with apple bellies often wish we had some junk in the trunk instead, and those who do wish they didn't. But yeah, if you can't move comfortably in a dress, then it's not worth keeping. You're a person, not a painting.

Beth Ann, I love Ted Baker prints, but his dresses are cut entirely wrong for me -- much too long in the torso, and too narrow in the hip.

I have success with sheath dresses with some stretch, so this held promise, but this one might just be a combination of too sheer/thin and too stretchy, and possibly cut just a bit too narrow through the legs for my body type. I was wondering if even a bit of gentle stretching on the skirt portion might help the riding up issue, but it seems to bounce back a bit too easily. I think that's why it rides up so much -- it's sort of seeking it's unstretched state.

Suz, yes! I have a long, fast stride. Dresses and skirts that ride up drive me nuts. My denim pencil skirt does it a little, but it's much more gradual. I can stand tugging down a skirt when I stand up from sitting, or after some time of moving around. But this literally started riding up as soon as I walked about 10 steps. I walked up the half-flight of stairs in my house in it, and the hem had ridden all the way up above my knees.

Janet, you look amazing. I think the curve at the top of the thigh is very feminine. The read I get from this dress is elegantly sexy. (Probably why Angie asked you to show it to DH!). However, I know the "riding up" issue. This is where a size up would be be nice. I'm quite frustrated at the moment with how manufacturers are cutting stretch garments -- they rely on the stretch to make it fit, when the stretch should simply help it move.

I'd keep watching Ted Baker -- I know you're already do, lol --- There might be a perfect dress in his collection for you.

Janet, I think what we're seeing is gorgeous curves where you are seeing a flaw. I echo Bijou on this -- I have curvy thighs and body con dresses tend to cling there and to my rear, so I know what you are feeling, but the visual effect is lovely on you from an outsider's perspective. I do understand about the potential for ride-up, though. For me, what that usually means is that the item is about half a size too small (or maybe a whole size). A slip won't typically help. It happens when I move and because I like to walk and walk fast, it's a pain in the butt (literally, LOL!) if I have to keep tugging my skirt as I go about my day. One of my old VC tube skirts is like this now due to a combo of weight gain and shrinkage in the wash and it drives me bananas.

Thanks for all the feedback and advice, everyone!

Angie, are you seeing something I am not in this? My eyes go straight to where it seems the dress clings to my thighs. My waist is not what it once was, so I'm feeling a bit more wary of bodycon looks.

I will try a slip to see if that helps with both the shape and the riding up issue. I fear stockings alone would only make it worse, since it's a mesh-type fabric. And I'll show Jamie when he's back home too, just to be sure. I'm in one of my phases when my weight is up (or is this just going to be my new normal? Eeek.) and I'm not loving what I see in the mirror so much, so taking that into account.

You look gorgeous in this dress and I think your figure looks amazing in it. Like you, I am a slim pear shape and my thighs are actually wider than my hips, so for that reason, I never wore figure hugging dresses and avoided skinny jeans. Recently I have not seen this as such an issue... I have a few knit dresses and lots of skinny jeans and am enjoying wearing them.
However, if you are not feeling it, then the dress should go back.

Truly gorgeous dress but ill-fitting for your perfect body--yes, it is the dress, not you!!! I actually saw one of these dresses at consignment, not a match for my body either. Thanks for sharing!

Aww...bummer! A beautiful dress that looked to have such potential. But, if it's not a home run, then it's gotta go back

Pretty dress but with dark florals popular now, there's bound to be another one with that doesn't have the riding up issue. I find dresses somewhat difficult too although I love wearing them--fitted dresses like this are particularly hard because they have to be just right. Gradfashionista mentioned a slip--I too was wondering if that would do the trick. Although I generally like dresses to work "as is," sometimes they need a little help.

It's the dress not you. When things ride up (a deal breaker for me), it's usually the fabric causing the problem. Glad you got to try it though so you won't have that FOMO feeling.

What a gorgeous dress. It looks really great on you. I find thin clingy fabrics really unforgiving, but for future reference, a slip can sometimes smoothe things out.
