Shiny: Nordstrom has the NL sweater/jacket in a soft grey. The dusty blue color you selected will be divine on you.

Shiny, I am soo glad you ordered the NL jacket! I have been eying it for a while, but it's way out of my price range. I'll live vicariously through you, I'm sure you'll look beautiful in it! I've seen it on other sites in grey and dark purple, but I think that this is the best color for you.

I also like the #4. A cashmere coat sounds like such a great investment. And I agree with you on the puffer jacket.

I ordered the XS. With NL, I tend to be between an XS and S or 2p and 4p. But since this jacket is sweatery, it has lots of give, so the XS was perfection - vertically and horizontally. Even the length of the sleeves.

Hi Shiny!

I love the item you did buy.

I could live w/out the moto jacket. It's too ordinary, IMO.

I love the idea of an upgraded camel coat. I remember the photo of you in your other one that you want to upgrade. I also think living where we do makes a cashmere camel coat perfectly reasonable. I think you should get the one that screams out your name. (which seems to be the more expensive one at this point). Maybe waiting later in the season (if you're willing to risk it).

The puffer jacket--I'd have to see it on. I have to get cauht up and see the $60 one you already bought. I think considering how long and cold our winters are, it's important to have a good coat wardrobe.

Kyle - they had it in other colors? The Bloomie's site only offered it in "dusty blue" - which is a very pretty blue.

San - I kinda agree about the moto, which is why I tried it on twice and hesitated both times. It has epaulettes, which I tend to steer clear from, and although it does fit snug and slightly cropped, and other than the too-long arms, fits me well, there's something about it that still just isn't quite me.

Acqua had another moto coat I tried on, that may be more "me." I'll have to dig that link out if I have a chance. Or I just need to hold off and wait for the right coat to find it's way to me. It needn't be real leather either. I really did like that AT faux leather jacket - but it was out of the question because it was impossible to hem the zippered sleeves.

Why don't you care for camel? Quite interested! I do wear a lot of brown tones in fall/winter, but also a lot of black. Camel seems like the "regulation standard must have" coat to have. Brown - not so interested in. I don't know. Guess this needs more thought - it's tough, because if I go for an exquisite coat, it'll cost a lot, so I have to be absolutely happy with the color I choose.

The NL jacket and the bows.... yeah, I did consider that, actually! But it's the pop of color that I am missing in my jackets in my closet.

The bowed paris jacket - that's going to come out for rarer occasions, I think. Like a party that was supposed to occur this weekend, but got pushed out until next month/December. It's not something I would wear for work. I would wear it for an evening out after work, however. With white jeans in the spring.

This NL jacket I can see myself wearing more frequently, since it's comfy as a sweater. Including to work.

I have yet to wear the NL blouse - I am still having a hard time finding anything to layer over it. I am afraid it is going to have to be a piece that I wear with dress slacks or jeans and NO jacket or cardigan. It looks too fussy and the bow sits at the wrong place too - just looks all wrong with any layer I try. It wants to stand all alone and make a statement! Minimal jewelry, a snappy pair of slacks or jeans, and nice shoes that don't compete too much.

So it will have to be for spring/summer when I don't need an extra layer. I still love it though - I smile every time I open my closet and see it hanging there.

You will be gorgous in the NL jacket!

My late opinions for what they're worth.

#1- I don't care for that particular motorcycle jacket. It seems very heavy and masculine for you.

#2- The down puffer- I agree totally with your reasoning about spending a lot of money that is going to make anyone look like a marshmallow.

#3- It doesn't even compare to #4.

#4- I was going to give the thumbs up on this exquistly made coat. I have never cared for the camel color and would have wanted the brown for you. Am I reading correctly that you did not buy this coat?

#5- The NL jacket- I bet you will love it and it will be a versatile piece for you.
Can't wait to see a picture of it on you. I was not going to reccommend you buy this one out of all the other choices because it seems like you have bought a few other very cute jackets lately with and without bows that sort of fill the same nitch in the wardrobe. But really you can never have to many uniquely beautiful jackets.

Shiny: Do hope you are feeling better. It's been nice to have your lovely presence on the forum as you recuperate. I'm so glad you went with the N.L. sweater. I just gave the same sweater, in grey, to my best friend for her birthday, and it is so darling. Versatile, too, I think (jeans, slacks, skirts, even over a dress). Perfect for a sassy petite. Can't wait to see the pictures. You ordered it in the soft green, yes? Can picture it with a rich plum...gorgeous.

You are the worst Enablers EVER!!

LOL

I just went and ordered #5, before the 15% off deal expired tonight. If I could've made it to the mall, it would've been even better deal because I wouldn't have had to pay shipping. But, I'm still on bed rest.... and am only now finishing up work -it's been a crazy-busy day!!!

To answer your questions, yes the camel coat would be an upgrade. I already have one - it's just not cashmere. I fancy (as Angie says) a cashmere coat because it is lightweight yet warm, and great for traveling, because it's so lightweight.

My DH has the most beautiful black cashmere 3/4 length classic coat he's had since college. It's sooo light weight - yet super super warm. He babies that coat and it still looks fabulous. He said it was very expensive - but it's been 25 years so cost-per-wear at this point is completely worth it. That's the kind of coat I want to buy one of these days. Complete splurge - but something I will wear the rest of my life.

So why did I buy #5 instead?

1) Moto jacket is now on back-order - by the time it would arrive, it'll be snowing here. So it just wasn't in the cards.

2) Puffer - do I really want to spend a lot of money on a coat that is simply practical and will make me look like marshmallow woman no matter what? ;-)

3) You all loved #5, and I thought it over, and considered that I do not have that many jackets that are in interesting colors. The curse of being petite. It's easy to find neutral jackets; not so easy to find jackets in colors other than beige, black, red, etc. Plus, it's not really a jacket - it's more like a sweater that looks like a jacket. It's very cozy, but structured.

4) I worked from oh, 7 am until 10 pm - glued to my bed (with once an hour hobbling around to ensure I'm getting circulation) and I felt like I deserved a splurge!

I love the organization method, too. It's awesome. Maybe I'll get there someday.

I think the moto jacket is great and would add an edge to your wardrobe that I haven't seen much of before.

At one point, you mentioned that you might post the other puffer or equivalant coats you currently have. Knowing that would be helpful in making a comment on this one.

Full disclosure - I love camel coats. Of course, I would like the second one more than the first one. I always seem to like the more expensive stuff. In any case, I had a cashmere coat that was so incredible. (I'll tell you the story about why I don't have it anymore sometime but I'm still so upset about it that I can't.) Anyway, it was so amazing and comfortable. So I think a cashmere blend coat is definitely a worthy investment piece.

The jacket is very nice.

So in terms of prioritizing, I think I'd go first for the moto jacket since I don't think you have anything like that. Then the NL jacket because it'd be good for work. Then I'd consider the other outwear pieces.

I think it's awesome that you are so organized! That inspires me to start a system like that.

1. LOVE the moto jacket. If there is any way to get that altered, I think that would be an awesome addition to your wardrobe.

2. Not an expert on puffer jackets. Definitely give this one a try if it comes on sale.

3. 4. I like both of these jackets. They would be good for the times when you have to go into the office and I think they would also work with jeans. I like the camel color, but if you don't have a gray coat that might add a little variety to your coat selection.

5. Wow, love this. Definitely get if you can get a discount!

Here's what I might do:
1) Buy the moto jacket and take it to a tailor ASAP to find out if the sleeves can be shortened. That would be one big variable eliminated if it can't be shortened. I was in Bloomie's a few weeks ago and had never seen the Aqua line before. Thought it was really fun!
2, 3, 4) I am not in love with these, but can see that if you are in the working world, they would be super useful.
5) Do anything you can to get this jacket! It is fantastic.

1) Love the moto jacket. If the sleeves can be altered, that would be a big temptation!

2) I'm just not sure you're going to see much difference in the silhouette with a puffer coat, even in a smaller size.

3) & 4) I've forgotten your coat inventory you posted on a while back...would one of these fill a gap for you, or are you just upgrading in quality/fit from something you currently have?

5) Wow! I'd love to see this on you!

I've been doing some online shopping to keep me from boredom. Made use of a few coupons at BR site and purchased a few items I'd had my eye on, but weren't in the store yesterday (I ended up saving $50 - not too bad!!).

Then I started cruising again for coats.... yesterday I did try on that grey wrap coat at BR. It fit perfectly, color was great, but .... I dunno... I guess I'm just not a wrap coat person. The belt just bugs me and I fear it adds bulk where I don't want it. And, it wasn't that heavy so I don't think it'll keep me all that warm. However, it's still on my list. But I didn't buy it.

Now, I have to tell you about my anal-retentive organization system! I have a spreadsheet in which I track coupons and their expiration dates. I can sort by vendor or by expiration date. It indicates whether the coupon is good online or in store only, and includes the online codes so I can just cut and paste them in.

I also have a worksheet in this spreadsheet on which I track clothes "wish list" items - things I see that I may buy - if it comes on sale or I have a coupon or I want to try in store first, etc. Sorts by vendor or type (coat, jacket, blouse) and has a column for URL. I check off what I buy, or check off items if I buy something different but similar instead. On this list are also items I want, but haven't found anywhere yet, like "Earnest Sewn Esra skinnies, size 26." (been hunting for those all afternoon).

(I also have tabs for xmas list shopping, and a tab for "expected packages" with confirmation numbers, shipping and tracking info... I told you I am anal-retentive when it comes to organization).

Very systematic, I am - but this system has been great and has helped me really focus my shopping efforts - while also making strategic use of coupons.

So here you go, from my wishlist under the coat category... would not buy all of these - they are alternatives for consideration:

1) Black Leather Aqua Moto Jacket:

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....x-xx.index

I tried this on at the store twice now. It fits perfectly - except the sleeves are waaayyyyy too long. However, the sleeves may be alterable. I am on the fence. Would like opinions. There is an insider sale through end of day (15% off), or I could cross fingers it comes on sale.

2) Down puffer - still debating over keeping the one I bought for $60, or getting this one instead, in a smaller size:

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....4*-1*-1*14

... I'm thinking I will hold on to the $60 one and watch for this one to come on sale.

3) Camel cashmere coat:

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....24*-1*-1*8

.... they are having a 25% off sale through tomorrow night. Tempted. A camel coat - everyone needs that, right? I have a camel coat, but it's not cashmere. I've been wanting to invest in a classic cashmere coat for awhile now. Cashmere coats are so light in weight. If it is an investment, it needs to be a classic, flatter me, and fit impeccably. Is this the one? Hmmm.

4) Total splurge cashmere coat - in either camel, or light grey (which isn't shown, unfortunately):

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....4*-1*-1*16

... again, there is a 25% off cashmere sale going on through tomorrow, so that brings the price down. Still a big splurge. If I was to splurge, I would keep the $60 puffer, forget the black moto jacket, and just buy this ONE coat. It does look nice. But, camel or light grey? That is the question.

5) Not a coat but, I tried this on in Bloomie's yesterday (right before the sales lady insisted I call my doctor and helped me to the car, hee hee). It's made out of this wonderfully soft sweater-like material, and the color is gorgeous. I think I was drawn to the color because of Antje's jacket she recently posted. It fit beautifully. However, I think I am adding this to the "only if it comes on sale" column though - and by that I mean, more than 15% off...

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....x-xx.index

So - what do you think? What would you do?
