I agree that the print is very beautiful. I also agree with the comments about Anthro: often overpriced, often disappointing in quality and fit. I haven't bought an Anthro item in almost ten years for these reasons. I guess their business model is working for them though, even if it feels alienating to me. But I like the inspiration.

That is a pretty top, Mochi, but given the potential challenges with it, I think you were wise to let it go. I have to agree with you about Anthro's shipping charges: outrageous!!! They often keep me from ordering.

Hi Mochi --

Well, I can see why you fell for that. Such a gorgeous colorway and print for you.

I will half-enable and suggest keeping an eye out in case it goes on an amazing sale..because then you *could* consider tailoring.

This message brought to you by someone who: feel in love with a similar silhouette [that I've sworn off] because of the fabric; sale-stalked it; purchased it; fell deeper in love with the fabric and deeper in hate with the cut; kept return option open for a few months; swore it was going back if tailoring was too costly...and now awaits return from tailor.*

*who said, "maybe you should wait for summer and try wearing it as-is" OMG WHAT NO

I am often jealous of your US prices. Those Nordstrom items- NZ $ 60 for the striped top and $ 90 for the dress. When you can get such nice things for what seems quite a good price to me ( most of the decent NZ brands are well over $100 when full price) then I fail to understand why you would pay $ 248. I agree with Joy, often the quality at the price point can disappoint for a number of brands. Which is why I frequently wait for sales. Especially if I have carefully looked after my stuff for that upcoming season before I put it away, I will have enough to wear before there are sales halfway through the season anyway. I appreciate this is easier in our temperate climate. There is masses and masses of suitable Autumn stuff still even although we are close to 2 months in. No-one needs any winter coats yet.

The neckline and light fabric reminded me of this one from Halogen (Find below). It has a sheer fabric over a lightweight knit underlayer. In real life, it looked quite floaty and more expensive than it is. I didn't try it, because I know the neckline wouldn't work well for me.

I was in the store to return the striped dress below. You can see I'm drawn to this kind of stripe! I love the colors and the imperfection of the stripe.

I always visualize clothes on me when I like them - which cuts down on temptation immensely. For example a high neckline is a no go, the wrong sleeves length, lots of things. Anyhow, saves me lots of money too!

Joy, you're absolutely right about a lot of their pieces. Though sometimes, you can find some really solid quality (and during sales, fairly reasonable prices).

I just ordered a bunch of things from them that are moderately-priced (for Anthro) and would really help out my transitional wardrobe. I'm assuming many won't work, but hopefully I'll get at least a few tops that do.

I have to say, it really ticked me off to be paying $15 in shipping. As in 5-7-day shipping. At those prices. I got over it (somewhat).

I like the colors and the painterly pattern and love the batwing sleeves, but when I see Anthro pieces in r/l, the quality for the asking price disappoints.

Oh, that's pretty. I love those painterly abstracts.

One thing I keep in mind about these roomy items is that you can often have a little leeway in sizing -- sometimes sizing down keeps them from looking overwhelming.

Probably for the first time ever, I'm taking Angie's advice and ordering clothes for Spring. Finally I'm learning! Especially since my size tends to sell out quickly. (Thanks as always, Angie. )

This top was on the Anthro site and is still (depending--maybe they run small) available in my size. It's so pretty and abstract. The price is pretty ridiculous (like many Anthro items).

I realized that even if it fits, what I really need in a top is some structure. I think this will make me look a size bigger, at least. Or not be flattering.

I guess I saved $248! Someone should try it, though.
