That Aritzia sweater is my other go-to. It's kind of a portable blankie, but the fact that your forearms show gives a look with it some shape.

A cropped Chanel kind of jacket could also work, in linen or linen-cotton blend, or some such.

A silky bomber sounds great...or some kind of kimono jacket? I have a vintage Biba one that I just love for this purpose, although admittedly in my case it is mainly against arctic AC because we rarely get this extreme temperature drop in a day and I'm mostly able to "dress down" with a denim jacket if it is going to be chilly.

Another option...depending on the cut of your dress...Ummlila posted a really nice sweater the other day from Aritzia. Would not work with full skirts but would work with pants or pencil skirts/ tube skirts.

Silky bomber jacket. Or this sort of jacket (see finds) that I have been using for exactly the situations you describe.

I know what you mean, because even here (on the sun blasted Prairie- hah) we can have temperature drops like that. Why don't blazers work? That's my solution for everything An office-y blazer isn't right, I know, but what about linen, seersucker, cotton , etc ? Or even a knit waterfall front jacket?

I have a lightweight cashmere scarf that can work as a shawl in the summer. That has gotten me through several occasions.

I've seen some women out and about with sheer solid and print ponchos, and very open-weave crochet ones. These are warmer than they look.

I wear a white linen blazer a lot in summer, usually with jeans, not as much with skirts. With dressier clothes, hmm, I usually end up bringing along a bright or neutral trench as the length seems to work with several outfits. I agree that cardigans can be tricky as to length or cut if not color.

My very casual summer is easy, but though I have the basics of more dressy casual summer there is a bit of a problem. In my climate there is a big drop, as much as 30 degrees, from day to night. It cam be 90 when I leave my house, and by the time I get home it is 60. So I need a lighter weight topper for evening events. Not a problem when I can bring along either my white or blue denim jacket. But if I want something dressier it is not so easy. I have a couple of long cardis but they always seem to be wrong-either colorwise, or some other reason they do not seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions or what do you all do?Blazers used to work for me in cold AC office, but now for theater, dine outs, casual evening walks around the harbor after dinner, etc. they mostly do not work with any outfits.
