Laura (Rhubarbgirl), There seem to be several issues with jackets. I have difficulties with vertical proportions for some reason. I have a high rise, and relatively short legs but I am tallish at 5"9". Despite my height, many jackets make my legs look stumpy. I also have difficult finding one where all the parts come together and fit me as they should, meaning that the shoulders fit, the sleeves are long enough, and the torso is narrow enough. Typically, if the shoulders and sleeves fit, the torso is very wide and requires a significant amount of tailoring which then can change the overall look of the jacket. I also have a hard time with collars. Large collars do not work well because I have a small face, and anything too stiff looks strange on me for some reason.

One last fit issue has to do with a boxy fit. I seem to have trouble with anything that looks boxy. I look like I am wearing a paper sack. I really need to have something with shape.

The WNTW UK ladies used to have strong opinions about jacket stance and buttons for figure types. Might be worth reviewing a few shows or checking their books. Jacket styles have moved on since then, though.

It's interesting to me that you've had trouble finding a blazer, stays fit, since your figure seems to be custom made for them. What about them ends up looking off?

Thanks for weighing in Angie!

I like the Armani style jacket. I think it fits my personality and I could imagine it looking good.

A one buttoned blazer is the more fashionable and modern choice.

Smaller breasted women can wear a blazer with a higher stance (buttons up higher - and is usually a 2 button) than those with a larger chest, who look better when the jacket buttons down lower (usually a one-button). That 's the conventional wisdom, anyways, and although I'm on the larger breasted side, i never wear a blazer buttoned up anyways, so I give myself a little lee=way with that "rule". I agree with Lisa's Armami-alike style suggestion.

It's not so much how many buttons, as where the buttons are (also how,the lapel is). How high or low the buttons are affects the proportion of the overall look, as does whether they are open or closed. I have kind of a short torso compared to my legs, so for me I look better in a blazer that has a long open v on top -- usually a one button.

I know they aren't particularly on trend (maybe not even presently available) but I could see you in those pale neutral drapy blazers that seem to say Armani.

How do you know if you better suit a one button or two button blazer? So far, I really don't love any blazer because I have never been able to find one that fits properly or looks correctly proportioned. Clearly my instincts have been leading me to the wrong places! I have no idea what I should be looking for?
