Late here, but I saw this yesterday and didn't have a chance to say that I LOVE these shorts on you Astrid! Especially the blazer looks and the tall boots. I think they'll be fine both with or without tights. I have a similar pair actually, and I like to wear them without tights and with boots :} The color of your pair seems like it would play really nicely with your wardrobe, and if you are getting stuck on styling you could always try thinking of them as short culottes.

Thank you all for your input! It's funny, everybody likes something different. And all outfits got some love! Although I agree that #3 doesn't work as well as the others. I think Denise is on the right track, I need either some volume, structure or a sleeved shirt on top. I'm going to do some shopping after work today, maybe I'll find a nice red or cream (or ...) top that goes with it. I will also look for some tights in a less contrasting color. Maybe I'll post some more pictures this evening, also with a different belt.

Are you crazy? These are fabulous on you! And they take your style in a slightly new direction. Soft shorts yet fashion forward and a little edgy.

I like them both with and without tights. I like them in every picture except #3 which doesn't work as well. The shorts are big and need volume on top to balance them out, which you've done in all the other outfits by wearing a patterned/sleeved top and/or jacket.

I think these shorts work with both the stripes & polka dots. Don't like them with the boots and love them with bare legs and the slouchy top in 6 & 7. Definitely a keeper.

I love them, tie and all, on you! Especially bare-legged with that last shirt, but I also like the layered looks in #1 and #3.

I do second the suggestion for a softer contrast with the tights however --- actually red or orange to 'continue' or tone with the shorts might be awesome with boots. Though yes, indeed, blue and green, cream and blush and lilac are all combinations that should be great with your colouring as well as those fab, feminine shorts.

Oh, keep these and try them before you give up on 'em! I think they're super cute, and love the looks in 1, 4, 6/7! I like bare legged and like in #1. Not so much a fan of them with the boots, but that's probably my middle age talking . . .

Do you have a rather tough looking wider brown belt that could work with these?

I also love the idea of cream with them! They seem like they're actually very versatile. . .

I like them! They do love you back, especially with feminine pumps.
I totally second the idea of switching belts for something sturdier.
I really like the double slouchiness of pic 5. It's relaxed yet very proper and so cool.

The top in 6-7 don't work as well with the shorts, because that type of top demands something more fitted on the bottom.

Tops 1-2-3 are all extra cool. Top 4 is cute, but something bothers me with it and the short. Either something is missing, or it would be better with completely opaque tights.

Legs: both bare and with tights look fine. I personally much prefer the look with tights, it's more urban and cool. The colour makes them more Autumn hot pants than Summer anyway, and it looks just so good against the tight's dark hue.

Thanks Diana. It makes sense to keep the belt for tucked in looks. I think deep greens and blues should look good with it, but they can't be too bright/cool or they won't work. I'll try to wear them with boots later on, I agree that it looks good.

Thanks Jayne. That was my favourite too. It's very balanced that way.

I love the slouch in these shorts, Astrid, and the way the color bookends your hair. I vote keep the tie, for looks like #1, but feel free to replace it with a strong belt, or no belt when there's no tucking involved. I love the caramel with the deep red in #3.

I vote for 6/7 but I think it is because the slouchy to balanced the slouchy shorts more than any other reason. And the solid color worked best to my eye

My favorite here is #2 (so fab with the black boots!) but I like these with bare legs at lot as well. I agree that removing the tie belt will give you more options as well (with my pants/shorts with this type of belt, I generally keep it on when tucking and remove it or replace with a flatter belt if not tucking.

As for colors to pair with, I would go for a blue or green. I think you can think of this color as basically cognac, so anything you would pair cognac leather with!

Thanks Kari. The tie is removable, yes. Makes sense that something like #5 would look better without it.

Thanks Christieanne. I guess the black is a bit harsh with it, the navy is softer. I like all of your color suggestions. I can see it with dark brown tights, also with the green. A dark red top would be great, I agree. I'll see if I can find something. I like to wear red anyway and I haven't one red top at the moment since I purged my old ones.

I actually like the shorts best with bare legs. With navy top that has that slight slouch, really nice.
A dark red top and maybe a dark brown tight instead of black for cooler weather? I am having a hard time liking the black tights but I think a tight in another color would work (maybe a forest green?).

The shorts have the slight volume of a skirt but the slouch of a menswear trouser - nice silhouette!

Astrid, I really like this in particular with outfits 1-2, but I feel like these shorts would be more versatile without that tie/belt. Is it removable? It seems like it might be a bit bulky. Without the belt I can see a softer, more voluminous top like #5 working a bit better.

I decided to start sorting through my wardrobe this evening. I want to take the 40% of clothes I don't really wear (see here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....t-wardrobe) out of it.

Here's one relatively new wardrobe item that's already an orphan. I've never worn it so far. I didn't post a keep or return because my mum bought it for me when we were shopping recently, so no returns. I loved the caramel color, but unfortunately it doesn't love me back. I have a really hard time finding tops to wear with it. I should have known better, right? White, navy and black works, but that was it. I think a dark red would look great too (on me and with it), but i don't have something in this color at the moment.

Is there anyway I can make these work? Which outfit works best and why? I actually felt most comfortable in the last one, with the relaxed navy shirt. Does it work with bare legs? I just left the tights on from the first outfit, please ignore them in the later pics if you think they look best without them.

And please excuse my wet hair, I'm coming from the gym.
