At the moment I am in dog walking gear (fleece jacket 11 years old, sneakers 3 years old, etc.) The only thing I have on that was purchased within the past 12 months is my boyfriend jeans. Needless to say I don't deem these outfits "fashion" -- they are gear -- so don't post them on a fashion forum.</p> <p>I am more likely to show you guys my new stuff. Especially accessories. I'm one of the few here who isn't on Team Wear for clothing, so I often have outfits which do not contain anything new. I like to let new items sit, separated, and let the idea of the item percolate in my mind and establish its place in my wardrobe memory before wearing (weird, yes, I know). Today I am wearing an outfit with one new thing from the last year (a blouse bought way back in March), but otherwise all oldies but goodies. For fun, I looked back over the last 10 days to see which outfits had "new for the season" vs. "new in the last year" purchases (excluding basics) and found:</p> <p>10 total outfits<br /> 3 outfits with "new for the season" items<br /> 6 outfits with "new in the last year" items (including this seasons items)<br /> 4 outfits with nothing new from the last year<br /> (and 7 days of "not new" if you count only the seasonally new things)</p> <p>An interesting exercise! And happy to find that the numbers fit what I was expecting of myself.</p> <p>I think that "new within the year" is a bit too broad, "new for the season" might be more useful if you're trying to track down shopping practices. Also, it's certainly much more common to find lots of those new items getting lots of wear when you're in the wardrobe building stage. Once you have a solid core wardrobe in place, I would guess this dynamic would change. Or have I been shopping too much?</p> <p>I do wear things for years and I'm not clad tip-to-toe in new purchases, but all my outfits have at least one newish item. For me, it's usually footwear.</p> <p>I do think I have been shopping more than usual as silhouettes are moving away from body con. </p>
