I think I'm pretty similar to MuseumGal - just the basics, with the exception of washing my hair more often because it's short and looks greasy and/or crazy very quickly if I don't. Once or twice I year I buy a few products with the intent of adding them in, which lasts for a week or so before I decide I'd rather have the extra ten minutes of sleep. This might need to change as I age or move into a more traditonal (ie, non-academic) job.

Hair: Shampoo, conditioner, pomade or wax. No hairbrushes, because I pretty much finger-comb most days! Hairdryer if it's below freezing or if I'm going out to an event.

Face: Kiehl's moisturizer with SPF, add night cream if it's very dry out (mostly in winter). Exfoliating wash one-two times a week.

Makeup: Lip balm/tint, mascara, concealer on bad days, lipstick and eyeshadow when going out.

Add in the basics of deoderant, dental hygiene, and shaving related products.

Coincidentally, I too have been culling. I am on de-clutter mode with everything that is mine. Books, clothes, shoes and grooming.

I switch things up according to the season. I need much more moisture for my skin in the winter and I don't powder ( except for a Bare Minerals "top off" to set make up ).

Here is my summer routine :

I wash with CeraVe moisturizing cleanser.

I mix a Matrixyl/Vitamin C serum with my La Roche Posay tinted SPF 50 sunscreen.

I use two concealers, most days.

Eyebrow pencil, most days

A lip tint

Powder Blush ( sometimes a little powder bronzer...)

Bare Minerals powder just on redness and over concealed areas.

Mascara or eyeliner

at night, I use either a clarisonic with the CeraVe or the CeraVe alone. My serum again and Oil of Olay.

In the winter I use the Estee Lauder ceramide capsules, a hyaluronic serum or Dove cold cream...depending on dryness.

I do almost nothing with my hair. Maybe hairspray or dry shampoo.

Wow, 11 products in the morning. And I thought that I had really "streamlined". I look at the list and though I find 11 products to sound like a lot, there is nothing that I would cut out. Hmmmmm

Oh, my. It's worse than I thought.

1. Weekend, staying home. Deodorant, brush teeth, brush hair.

2. Minimalist leaving-the-house day. Add moisturizer, makeup primer, full makeup (foundation, highlighter, blush, eyebrow powder, eye shadow, mascara, lip pencil, lip gloss - total five minutes, I swear!). Skip hair wash, touch up hair with flatiron.

3. Normal work day. Add shampoo, conditioner, straightening product, shine spray, round brush, blow dryer.

4. Leg-shaving day. Add razor, shave product, body cream.

5. Mani-pedi day. Add polish remover, base coat, color coat, top coat, and tools.

Believe it or not, though, it only takes me about 40 minutes to get ready from bed to dressed, even on Day 4!! (Photo 5 is kind of an exaggeration because I do my mani-pedis at night or on the weekend!)

Lol that little white gadget on the top left (electric face scrubber?) looks like a sex toy. ;-)

I probably use about the same as you. My daily-use list includes:

- face wash
- face cream (day cream with spf)
- plain night cream
- soap for body
- deodorant
- toothpaste/sonicare toothbrush/floss
- afro pick for hair (I can't remember the last time I brushed; I have a shag haircut)
- blush
- mascara
- undereye concealer
- foundation
- lipstick or tinted balm

I also use these products, but not every single day:

- shampoo
- conditioner
- hairspray
- vitamin C capsules for my face (whenever I remember)
- sunblock (for if I'm going to be outside in the sun)
- eyeliner
- eyebrow pencil

I'm probably missing something, but that's all I can think of!

ETA sometimes I use a flatiron.

My goodness you make me feel like a slacker. I don't use any hair products most days (I only wash my hair every 4 or 5 days). I use a body lotion daily and I use a face serum and then two types of sunscreen. Most days I wear lipstick. Maybe two days a week I wear some makeup which consists of a BB, blush, powder if it's humid, and sometimes mascara. And that's it. Sometimes I think I'd like to learn to use makeup like an adult, but I never seem to get around to it.

Tanya, yes for body it's the LRP Lipikar Lait, which is absolutely the best unscented lotion I have used. Gives the skin such a nice glow. The hair stuff is to the right of the photo. Shampoo, styling creams for control and heat protection.

Niki Lea, I start in the am with my skin with Toleriane face wash. Gentle, but it foams, so good to use with the Clarisonic. I usually tone with a Bobbi Brown toner I don't show in the photo. Then if I feel crusty from the night products having exfoliated little crumbs, I use a Dr. Dennis Gross peel pad (the gentle one). After that I lay down an antioxidant serum, currently using Dr. Dennis Gross Retinol Ferulic. After that, goes on the DG Retinol Ferulic cream over that on my décolleté and neck (don't have to waste the precious serum this way).

After THAT I lay on an spf 45 that is tinted (Revision skin care right now). Next comes makeup, which I like to look simple and natural.

At night I remove makeup with Bobbi Brown remover and then wash again with the toleriane, then tone with the BB hydrating toner I so love. It gets off every last trace of dirt. Currently I lay down a layer of the DG Retinol Ferulic serum, followed by the cream that goes with it. In the middle of the night I wake up and moisturize with the DG hylauronic cream and spritz my face with one of my waters that you see. I like the YonKa because of the smell and essential oils. I love the Caudalie Beauty Elixir for the luxury and the smell. I love the Caudalie Grape Water for face, body, refreshing and cooling down.

When I get a zit I love Badescu's Drying Lotion. Miraculous stuff.

Lisa P, I know what you mean about the travel case revealing all you really need to get by in the day to day. But as in my wardrobe, I love variety in my beauty products!!! I am a sucker for nice smells and gorgeous packaging.

Gracie, I forgot the perfumes! I have a collection of 35 bottles and love about ten of those. Right now I am into my Chanel 1932 as a beautiful everyday scent. It's much more pleasing to me than Number 5. I don't think I could start my day without perfume. It completes me, lol.

Karymk - I like this post! I use some of those same products and am also addicted to the Caudalie spray. Love it. Bobbi Brown is my favourite colour line too, and I like the Living Proof hair products (with the exception of the hairspray). Goes to show you how little we really need out of the huge stash a lot of us have (me). I use about the same number of products as you do - just at a glance, anyways. I've noticed that lately I don't even have to unpack my travelling cosmetic and toiletry bag once at home, because these are the things I use everyday anyways! Part of my closet purge will also cover makeup . Pitching anything not used lately. Thanks for adding to my "to do" list

Oh, I am seriously coveting your Bobbie Brown makeup. Can you share more about your skin care routine? I love face creams.

In the morning I pretty much wipe my face with a warm washcloth and then moisturize, either with a Cetaphil moisturizer of another brand with a sunscreen and AHA. But I need a new night cream (just ran out). The goopier the better. Oh, and I just started putting a little coconut oil on my lips in the mornings.

On the weekends I always wear an SPF 30 sunscreen on my face (under my foundation/BB cream), neck, decolletage, and arms. During the week I'm pretty much indoors all day long in an office.

I use just a few less, not a big difference. I didn't see a perfume bottle in your photo, maybe I missed it. I also love the Gariner BB cream. This reminds me to do some culling of my own. I have some pretty color shadows that I'm not reaching for... I seem to prefer nudes and browns. For outings I add a bit of color with a fat crayon eyeliner, sometimes a sparkly one.

That looks low-maintenance! I use 5 or 6 products on my face in the morning before I even begin to apply makeup (cleanser, toner, eye gel, moisturizer, second moisturizer thing, sunscreen). Hair is another five, counting shampoo and conditioner. There are 4 or 5 other face products for evening--some the same, some different than morning. Another 8 makeup products for day. It takes a lot to get me out the door each day!

It was time for me to cull through my "products" and get rid of anything old, expired or no longer used. There were dozens and dozens and dozens of products! I decided to do a little experiment and see what I actually use in a 24 hour period. This photo is the result.

Do you use more or less product per diem than this? This is about as minimal As I can get-- I probably could do without three kinds of spray elixirs and waters, but I'm addicted.

I have not included my dental products here, but add four.
