I have high volume feet. Some of the styles I would love to wear I can not even get my feet into. It is rare to find a pair that I can pull on without a tussle. I need zippers.

This thread has been helpful to me, what with my recent toe problems. I have wider feet, and freakishly high arches, and the beginnings of bunions. That sounds like high volume according to this discussion, so now I know what to look for in everyone's recommendations for shoes.
Thank you!
XOXOXOXO

My feet are different. I haven’t measured them in years, but it always used to be that my right foot was wider than the left, and the left was slightly (less than half a size) longer than the right. I have high arches and need a wide toe box.

My feet are very tall, but the a actual volume probably isnt that much, because of the “scoop” of my arch on the bottom. I’m very familiar with the struggle to get into a shoe. It might fit like a dream once I’m in, but squeezing and maneuvering through the openings of some shoes just isn’t worth it—they aren’t made for the shape of a foot.

I always thought of the width thing as meaning I needed more material on the top, so they’d fit around my foot, but then I tried on some Adidas a few weeks ago. Yikes! I was clearly walking in the edge of the soles—not a good feeling.

I don’t give my feet any trouble—if a shoe hurts somehow, I won’t wear it, and they don’t give me trouble either.

Feet come in a variety of shapes. Mine are much like Angie's but with a high, sensative top that does not work well with slip ons like Scetchers...pain I am still trying to figure out which otherwise comfortable shoes rubbed the top of my left foot and it is not healing!! I suspect lace-up sneakers, which work well for most

I have to say, I was so glad to finally understand this! I think my feet are close to Suz - high arch, narrow heels, standard toe box.

For me, boots have to have a long zip or lace up the front or I can't get them on. (Years of tears trying to get into ski boots as a kid).

I wish there was a boots equivalent of slingback heels, which are always the easiest shoes for me to wear.

It is a wonder any of us are shod at all, with such variation between feet!

My feet are average width in the toe box, but my heels are narrow and so is my arch/ instep area. However, my instep/ arches are fairly high. High without being at all fleshy. But also not extremely bony.

(You getting a picture? I didn't think so.)

My feet are weird, no wonder shoes are so hard. Very narrow esp heels, very narrow ankles, but high arches. Sandals are by far the best for me, with diagonal not horizontal straps to keep my feet in!

Sterling, were they the same Pikolino boots? They work for higher volume feet. My clients prove it.

That said, Janet is dead right. High volume refers to foot DEPTH too - not just the width of your foot. So the height of your instep and slope of your arch. (Instep is the TOP vamp of your foot. So the height of your foot when you stand). The higher your instep, the harder it is to fit your foot into a slip-on style. You need a zipper to create extra width and height to get it on. You also need room in the vamp.

One reason you love sneakers is because they work very well for high volume feet. They are wide, roomy toe box, and the height is high, which you can further adjust with laces - or there's an elastic insert.

Low volume feet are the opposite. Narrow, very low instep and arch. Flat and pointy. Like mine. Sneakers and sandals are hard to fit unless they are a narrow size.

Sterling, lastly, the foot volume runs on a continuum. So there are degrees of low and high volume. You can be a combination of both. Hope that makes more sense.

I have low volume feet - which means that my feet are narrow and relatively flat. I thing of volume as being width plus depth of the foot.

Hmm. It seems to be high volume would refer not only to width, but to depth -- i.e., having a deeper instep. For instance, one could have wider but flatter feet, which may not translate to "high volume." At least that is my interpretation. I know that my feet are slightly narrow AND slightly low-volume because I often need to lace shoes snugly to create better fit all around the foot, and I often have extra room around the toe box even if the shoe is not too long.

I'm surprised to hear Pikolinos described as good for high volume feet, because I had a couple of pairs years ago that worked really well on my feet. Perhaps they have changed their fit? Or not, according to your experience!

I just wanted to say LaP's comment about white sorrel boots made me smile this morning.

My question has to do with Angie's description of "fits high volume" feet. Whenever I see that phrase used in her description, I assume it will likely fit my wide feet. Unfortunately, I ordered Pikolinos shoes during NAS and I couldn't even fit my foot into the shoe even though they were described as "fits high volume" feet. I am wondering if I misinterpreted her statement.
