OMG, amiable, I have that exact same problem! I was way too enamored of Han Solo and Princess Leia's sarcastic exchanges and wry grimaces, and now I can't smile straight either!

Yep for me too - my weird shaped nose, and my off-kilter smile. Funny thing is, my smile is my own fault. At some point when I was a pre-teen or young teen, I decided that lopsided smiles were really cute. I practiced mine for hours to get it lopsided in front of a mirror. Now, if I'm not in front of a mirror, it's off center. In the mirror, I smile straight. Someday, I hope to retrain my muscles to smile symmetrically again, ha!

You just had to bring up nostrils, eh Mo? Lol! My nose is slightly crooked (off center, really) thanks to being hit twice when I was a child--once by a basketball, and once by a boy who butted in line to wait for the bus and turned around to hit me in the nose with his bookbag full of books. Anyhoo, it has never bothered me, but years later my orthodontist pointed it out, saying that my face is not symmetrical. He went on to say that no one's face is symmetrical, but still. I just laughed it off. I'm as pretty as I can be without plastic surgery, hee-hee. I'd rather live with my real and perceived flaws than undergo unnecessary surgery.

Ok, well I was over the fact now that neither me nor my bf have eyebrows in photos, thanks for reminding me, hehe. Just kidding. No, it's true. It's one of the reasons I don't like wearing full make-up. Do it all the time and you like you're on death's door the one day you don't. I think it's also one of the reasons I have to be rate: I will get neurotic if start paying attention.

Haha, you guys are all listing things that make you twitch, and I swear, I have most of them too. Sparse, blond eyebrows? Check. Gummy smile? Check. Signs of aging? Check. Mo -- uneven nostrils? Yes mine are too. And here I thought I was the only one.

Now I guess I'd better REALLY start freaking out. Hahahaaaa

But seriously. I'm not too worried about any of this. It just struck me as funny how once you notice a so-called imperfection, it's hard to forget about it. I'm sure I will eventually. But I really don't want to give up my nice new tube of undereye concealer...

Una, that Charlie Brown comic is perfect. "We laugh because it's funny and we laugh because it's true" -- or something like that -- from the Untouchables, yes?

Yes! When I smile big time you can see my upper gums. Nothing unusual, right? When I was fourteen or so someone told me about that fact and that they thought is was SO strange and of course everything I saw in smiling pictures of me were my upper gums. Ridiculous. Luckily I didn't stop smiling and after a while that went away again. I've had it happen with other things too, it's always something different that comes up from time to time.

Yes, but I try not to dwell. I have quite uneven nostrils . . . I know, who notices their nostrils, right? And also the eyebrow thing. I see in pics that fuller is better, but somehow up close in the mirror they look bushy to me when realistically I know that's not the case. I have been trying to let them fill in for at least a year or two now.
I do find that when I am busy at work (where there are no mirrors) as opposed to off at home in FL, I spend less time noticing or focusing on this minor imperfections.

Ceit, do you take glucosamine? I started taking it because my mom swears by it - and went back to knitting after years of being unable to - and I think it really helps with osteoarthritis. Which I have an awful lot of for a 40-year-old, though not in my hands.

My hands! They are starting to look like my mother's hands (and hers now look like my grandmother's did). I just know that osteoarthritis is in my future and I see my knuckles starting to get bigger and my index fingers starting to twist and it freaks me out. I never had long slender fingers or hands worthy of modeling anyhow, but I see them starting to not work properly, especially in winter and it makes me sad!

I realize I am much more aware of sagging, wrinkles and aging signs now, but I also realize that it is not just a silly obsession, it is that the aging is showing more and more lately (I am 47). Actually I think that is why I am more interested in clothes and fashion now than when I was younger. I guess that I am trying to compensate - as I can not change aging signs, I try to improve my clothes and style. But that must be better for myself and others than just letting myself go and get all frumpy and unkempt, don't you think?

I never noticed until one day someone asked me if I had broken my nose. I then looked at my profile, and now all I can see is how crooked it looks!

Yes, my eyebrows.

I realized I look pretty weird in some outdoor photos. I finally figured out that the reason is that I have very sparce eyebrows. I saw it, I cannot unsee it I am obsessed about filling in my eyebrows now.

Also, I realized about a year ago, that after about 15 years of dealing with acne, I have some residual scarring on my cheeks - elongated, enlarged pores. I never saw the damn scars, now they are all I see :(

My undereye circles bothered me even more so after one of the annoying vendors who hang out in the middle of the shopping mall chased after me yelling "hey ma'am, we've got something to help your dark circles"! How not to make a sale.

The last couple of days I've been obsessing that I need new eyeglass frames because they slip down my nose and I look directly at the top of the frame. This is what comes of reading about other people's searches for new ones.

I do this ALL THE TIME. With EVERYTHING. I have to calm myself and make myself stop obsessing. I even bad about stupid little things that don't matter like a spot on my clothes when out.

Aargh. I never noticed my undereye circles before, and now that's all I can see! A few months ago, I was at my best friend's house, watching her put on her undereye concealer. She's worn it for years. I have blue under my eyes, just like her (and half the planet, probably), but it had never really bothered me. But for fun I tried some of her concealer. I liked it, ended up buying my own a while later, and now I can't stop. When I look at my regular, un-made-up face, ALL I notice are my dark circles! Now my makeup doesn't feel complete unless I conceal them.

Does this sort of thing ever happen to you? Not just with undereye circles, but with other beauty products or fashion items? It happens to me all the time. Like, one day I happened to notice that my Hunter wellies are about an inch too tall for me. I use them more for convenience than anything, so I don't normally check my appearance in the upstairs full-length mirror while wearing them, but one day I did look properly and realized they are too tall. Now I am hyper-aware of it whenever I put them on.
