They are overinvested in real estate - in mall locations which are quickly falling out of favour with the consumer. Lots of people bought WFH stuff, cozy stuff, and etcetera but now they have what they need for those types of items. With nowhere to go, there is no need for anything dressy or fancy, so no need to shop. </p> <p>It has accelerated the retail apocalypse in a really scary way. Lots of major players are on bankruptcy watch lists or have already announced they are filing.
