Definitely have some jackets that work best with dresses and skirts (the cropped and boxy ones) and some that work better with pants. Some people are able to make the shorter jackets work by layering a longer top beneath but that doesn't seem to work too well for me, personally --- this is due to my own body proportions (short waisted but relatively long rise.) I can do it if the top and bottom are low contrast or if I have a column of colour thing going on.

I do have jackets that work equally well with both dresses and pants. They usually have some waist definition and hit at around my high hip. However, that wouldn't work for every body type. It just happens to work for my fairly straight body type.

What do actual really tall ladies do?
Bang their heads on the wall... almost... it *is* very, very frustrating, trust me!

I am not very good with deliberately making the proportions work certain way, that area is hit-and-miss for me, but I'm not that bothered at the moment. What I can say is "yes", shorter lengths for me personally work better for dresses and skirts, and I think it's because they visually highlight the waist.

I do have cardigans/jackets that work well with dresses and skirts. They are always shorter in the length. To make them work with trousers or jeans, I just wear longer tops (not tunic but longer than waist length).

Do I divide up my jackets and cardigans by whether they work with pants or dresses? Unfortunately, yes, I'm starting to. Makes me crazy. Goes against my desire for minimalism. But a cardi that works perfectly well with pants can be SO dowdy with a dress. I think it's less of a problem with jackets if they define the waist.

So when I first joined YLF I found that a lot of my pants were too short, and I went on a PPL odyssey. I have accepted, to a certain extent, that I have to buy talls in most brands of pants (which I think is nuts, by the way, because I'm not that tall. What do actual really tall ladies do?)

What I'm figuring out recently is that a lot of my shirts are too short as well. This is actually not that easy to solve since a lot of brands don't do tall tops and jackets. And I'm already on the big end of misses, and I know that when I was smaller it was even harder to find things that were long enough.

On the other hand, shorter cardigans and jackets work well with dresses, and sometimes skirts. Do you divide up your jackets and cardigans as to what will work with pants and what will work with dresses?

I tried to come up with a cardigan to wear on top of my dress-of-fail today and nothing worked at all; everything was too long.
