The commute would have been around 1/2 hour each way.</p> <p>I got a call from the local not-Walmart grocery store to put me in their produce department to do what I think of as convenience produce--the stuff that's cut up and packaged on site. It's $9.25 hour, a 10 minute commute each way, and it is a permanent position, not seasonal.</p> <p>I had to talk to my 12-step sponsor, husband, and higher power and really dig deep. Yes, i want to work clothing retail, but i NEED a steady/reliable income. My truck gets really crappy gas mileage, so the commute was another factor that weighed heavily on me. Now that I've worked a day under my new manager, I think I made the best decision. No, it isn't my dream job, but it's the one that will help me pay my share of household bills so DH can semi-retire. It's the job that will help me pay down the credit card debt from building this house. It was a hard choice, and I didn't make this decision lightly. It sucked, to be honest; but it felt like the most adult decision I've made in a really long time.</p> <p>I hope that clears up the confusion about the job at Old Navy. Good thing I had a summer temp job for the stocking warehouse at Joseph A Bank, because back then they had a women's department too, and I stocked up on a few suits for ridiculously inexpensive prices. Of course, when I left that job I had no need for suits!
