These outfits mostly look great on you. The exception is the brown sweater I think.

I've always felt that when you have grey/silver in your hair, brown doesn't look as nice close to your face. It seems that the colour just washes you out.

That skirt is great!

Ha, just Googled it. Thanks for giving me a laugh!
I haven’t decided what to do about the skirt yet but sometimes posts like this lead me to suddenly decide to donate a few months later- has happened before.

I vote keep the sweater - definitely trendy again - and you love it.

Pass on the skirt. You have other dressy skirts. How many dressy skirts do you want - maybe 3 for each season at the most? Pick the best.

Love the blue boots, my problem is they look a bit too dainty and dressy to that sweater-which is a great color match, but seems more casual and chunky to the boots- oh well-nobody's business (just ours here at YLF:-))you know--
Also love the skirt with the peplum top or a plain dark one, but not that BF cardi- You loose your frame.in so much volume. I can understand working on older pieces, as am one of those who part so hard with beloved clothes from the past, but then...am not wearing them too often, either. hanging on them only for some nonsense nostalgic (or other times possible DIY creative) reasons. We should take lessons from Lisa, for moving on easier.

I agree with others than the cardigan kind of pulls it down ... The color is perfect; I think it's the length. Could the skirt be shortened to midi-length?

ha....i was going to suggest that if you keep the skirt pair it with red...and then a in post in the middle, i see that's exactly what you did! if you keep it, that's how i'd wear it. but overall, i agree with those who've said that the skirt overwhelms you...maybe try taking a couple of inches off the bottom?
the jumper in #1 is nice, and if you still love it, keep it...maybe try it with lighter color bottoms? i can't remember if you have white jeans, i'd love to see it paired with white....

The dark floral skirt seems so heavy and static to me, as if a visual weight. And it does look to me like it would get in your way. Does hubby like the skirt for *you* or just the beautiful fabric? Could he use a beautiful cushion or pillow sham? :D

I love the brown skirt on you. I wouldn't pair with the brown cardigan, though...looks a little dowdy when you wear long sweaters with long skirts. I would pair it with a tailored jacket, or leather jacket, that ends at the waist. Or a sweater with dolman sleeves or some interesting, trendy cut, that also ends at the waist and gives you some "definition".

My trick for incorporating vintage and voluminous items in my wardrobe is to pair them with modern/trendy items, especially shoes and accesories. I have long dresses from the 80s and 90s that would look quite "dated" on their own, but I pair them with trendy bags and shoes and I end up with an outfit out of a ZARA catalogue, or at least that's what my friends say.

I enjoy the jumper ( sweater) still Shevia, possibly until I die. The skirt I am not sure of. The peplum I am enjoying but this is only its third wear. I bought it as sort of aspirational for my fancy new walk-in wardrobe and maybe my updated style as I gradually tried to edit my wardrobe. However I think I have other new things that I am enjoying more than it, like my olive and my ink snakeskin pants. I am not yet quite sure why that is. My own feelings are difficult to decipher sometimes!

Oh and thank you Ophelia, lovely compliment. The skirt seems to get strong opinions either way! It didn’t used to feel overwhelming in about 2008 but maybe the fashion was different then and there were more skirts like that.

Photo 1’s sweater: oh yes extremely 80s and 80s shape, I knew that. It was in the back of a cupboard for at least a decade or more from, I dunno, late 90s-late 00s? I couldn’t bear to ditch it then and brought it back out after a gap of 10 years or more when bright colours came back. I have worn it at least some times every winter since then, maybe since 2010 or so. I only have 2 80s sweaters left so think I’ll keep it for longer. I saw a similar shape in Witchery ( Australian chain) last winter though not this winter. So yes DonnaF I am fine with that for now. And Lisap I knew you would want it passed on as I know you prefer to look forward, we are different that way which is fine!
The skirt: as it would probably only be donated then I might consider an alteration. I don’t need to wear the long bronze cardigan with it but I did need to keep warm today. I would like a shorter red top or jacket but nothing doing in my closet or that I’ve seen out and about.

I strongly prefer the long skirt outfit without the brown sweater. But I still think it could be better. Maybe a top that slows some skin, maybe a trim of the skirt-not sure of width or length? Red shoes or bag? I really want it to work but I’m puzzled

I agree with Carla . The blue boots are fun and interesting ; I liked the peplum top the first time you showed it ( flattering and a sophisticated , updated look) but I don’t think the skirt is particularly modern or flattering - to be very honest . It overwhelms you . Not a fan of the sweater in photo 1 , but then again I’m not one for winking at past decades’ looks either , so take that with a grain ( or tablespoon) of salt . I’m all for moving forward with a wardrobe .

I love the skirt fabric. Is it something that can be cut down and re-made into a shorter and maybe straighter skirt? It is a bit overwhelming on you now.

The brown cardigan needs to be worn with pants. Not sure about the color. Maybe it worked better before you had gray hair?

You haven’t seen me in that much brown, Joy, in past years I wore a red top with the skirt but the two I tried earlier in an outfit lab looked off. ( Old pics below- I intend to donate the top in pic 1). I thought the peplum top colours were perfect for the skirt? I felt OK at work although it felt a bit fussy with all that fabric around my legs when I usually wear straight pants.

Do whatever you have to keep those blue boots in circulation. The peplum top is a real winner (and I remember it from an earlier post.). The colours in the skirt are wonderful, and you've chosen good partners but the skirt itself is too long. I would suggest passing it on

Hi everyone. Still going on Sal’s challenge to wear my unworn winter items. I am really getting there as there are only 2 tops, one jumper, one vest, one jacket, two skirts, one tunic and 4 dresses to go. Plus all 7 higher heeled shoes or boots. I tried on one pair of the shoes that I’m almost resolved to sell, and am also going to sell a retro vest I have. There are some other things to sell too, just gathering up the 8 items I need for a new shop I am going to try to sell through. In the past I have mostly donated but some of these cost more so I will try to make a little.
Pic 1: 1986 Mondi jumper 1st wear this winter. With a black turtleneck this time since you all didn’t like a pink one last year. I have donated my pink and blue ones so only have black left. Worn with new black pants and faithful 2015 cobalt boots now at 84 wears and looking a little battered.
Pics 2-3 first trial of old 2008/9 dark floral skirt that was in holding zone. Put it with the 2018 peplum top 3 wears, the 2018 bronze booties 15 wears and the 2018 bronze cardigan 61 wears.
Tucking in was suggested but pic 4 shows why not: it has a wide band of brown velvet which highlights my belly which I prefer not to show!
I was worried the length made me look like I was in some old-fashioned religious sect where they barely have electricity or modcons?! Am I paranoid? Anyway hubby likes it and then I got 2 compliments at the office. But I am still not too sure. Angie didn’t vote for keeping this skirt but some of you did. Honest opinion appreciated.
