You ladies are the best. What a great idea to try layering it -- I hadn't thought of a top underneath, but that could be really fun, if the armholes allow. I have a burgundy blouse that would pick up one of the colors from the hem. Thanks for all the feedback and ideas!

I think it works with the skirts - really flattering image in #4 in particular and could work as a LBD that way.

I also like it with the high-low! And I like Rae's idea of layering + flared jeans. It'd be cute to pick up one of the colors from the band and have the tail of a similarly colored shirt peeping out.

I like it best with the striped midi and the solid black. You could also try it layered over a silk button-front with your flared jeans, I think.

Great sentimental reason to keep it, so wear it! You look quite hot in that VC skirt, and I really love those sandals!

I like how it works with the hi-lo, but agree that the jeans combo is my least fav.

Agree with the crowd here -- it's fab with the hi/low. It would also be great with a skirt like the one Angie is wearing today, I think -- that mod crisp bold-striped flared midi skirt (how many more adjectives can I pack in?). Do you have one like that?

Adore it with 7/8. I think the boho feel of it complements the high low skirt. I love juxtaposition but am not sure that it works as well with the more tailored VC style skirts--or my "conservative eye" can't make that jump yet. Will be curious to see how others read this. I have to say that I love these kind of posts because they "test" my style instincts (or lack of.)

I like it best with the high/low skirt too - this look reads the most current to me. With the jeans I am just getting a vaguely timeless arty/boho vibe - nothing wrong with it but not as current/intentional as I think of your style. With the tube skirts I feel like the fabrications don't work as well together.

I like it with the skirts! It's different from the current ones yet does not read as "dated" to my eye. The band on the bottom makes it a sort of "arty eclectic" piece and therefore quite timeless, in my opinion.

I think this is amazing with the high low skirt and scrappy sandals. I could see that ensemble for a nice night out or even cocktail party. I would keep it just for that.

I like it with the striped VC too.

Not so sure it works with jeans but I'm not a fan of visible jeans waists on anything but very low rise jeans. You might try layering over a longer top but I'm not sure this crop top is quite cropped or boxy enough for that.

Thanks, Ingunn! I added some pics with skirts I own to see if it works that way. Ignore awful hair and facial expressions. About to go for a run so no attention to hair or makeup yet today.

I think it has a beautiful neckline, and I also like the band at the bottom. If you pair it with a high waisted skirt, I think it will be current.

This is a crop top I've owned for over ten years. My husband bought it for me before we married, and that's part of why I've never gotten rid of it -- it was one of the first items we got while shopping together, and it's the only one still in my closet from that time (there was also a pair of burgundy wide-leg cropped pants, which are now long gone, but they were frequently worn with this very top).

Now, these days I don't choose high-waisted bottoms because I've come to realize that I'm quite short-torsoed and high-waisted is tricky on me, particularly when I'm not my skinniest. So styling this might be a little bit of challenge. The bottom band is ever so slightly sheer and printed with a pattern, and the back is slit slightly.

I may take this out for a test spin in an outfit with a jacket and some of my least-low-rise jeans to see how it feels now. For this photo, I just threw it on with some fairly-low-rise skinnies, but most of my jeans are only slightly higher rise than these. I wonder how this would look with a black midi skirt.

What do you think? It doesn't look like crop tops I'm seeing around, but does it look current or somehow dated? I've hung onto it all these years, and now crop tops are back, so it feels like it's either now or never!

Edited to add pics with some skirts I have. 3-4 VC stripe tube skirt, 5-6 stretch lace pencil skirt, 7-8 high-low hem skirt, 9-10 VC black tube skirt. Unsure whether this is flattering on my big hips but as Angie says, I'm highly sensitized to that area of my body, so I really value outside eyes. Suggestions welcome.
