Diane G, that's pretty much what I thought too. If a construction like that could be stitched into a facing it would be almost invisible.

I hope you can make it work! Agree that you need to take it to a tailor, as without looking carefully at how that particular garment is constructed, it's all guesswork...

It is fab on you Ann! I would see what your tailor thinks, but I think if it was reinforced it could work. I wonder if it was done in such a way that any stitching that had to be done was done in such a way that it could just look like a bit of decorative topstitching, yet camouflaged the fact that it was there for reinforcement. If a small piece of fabric was put underneath going across from one side to the other hidden from the outside, yet stitched on either side to the jacket sleeve and body? Could work.

It's gorgeous and dramatic. Is it for evenings out or work or both? I hesitate to say this, but if it were for work the seam issue would be a deal breaker for me. In my experience, that seam would eventually tear. I am not a seamstress, however, so perhaps there is a way to reinforce it.

This really does look fantastic. Like everyone else, I want this to work!

But... sorry to say it, but that weak seam looks like a deal breaker to me. It's a very vulnerable spot and any damage would be visible. The stitching would need to be reinforced from the underside on both sides and secured without creating extra bulk.

It's hard to say what can be done without knowing how it's constructed. If there's a facing on either side of the seam it may be possible to work in a tiny reinforcing gusset.

Let's wait and see what Diane G thinks.

I'm like Angie, in awe of the outfit on you. I'd take it to a tailor and see--I think it could be done. It looks to me like you could gain an inch on the opening on each side in front, and perhaps in back also.

You were all very generous with your feedback on my wildcard BCBG Capelet after Thanksgiving, and I brought it home with me and styled with an all black ensemble (shown below). I need the help of my seamstress fabbers however, because there is a potential issue. Because of the very structured shoulders and the seam placement on said, any forward movement of the arms strains on the seam. This means the piece would be relegated to only evenings out where I could stand with my arms by my side or in my pockets...unless. What if I remove a few stitches on each to free the arms up a bit? It's a gamble, but I haven't removed the tags yet and could return rather than ruin it. I'm so torn!
