I often work 2 jobs, happily, when back in CA. Part of me feels that I am giving up things to be here, even though the end result is more money for both of us. And that I deserve to buy some nice things for myself as a kind of 'trade off' for leaving my life behind. Of course, he leaves his life behind, too, and works 60+ hours a week on top of it. So, yeah, I'm conflicted. I figure under $400 is a reasonable amount of money to spend in a month. That's everything from wine to random stops at Biglots for bread or shampoo, whatever. Considering $185 went to the leather coat, I've already been making adjustments to keep my spending down.<br /> But the bottom line is, sharing money, and sharing differing values on how to spend or save it, can be tricky to navigate. Honestly, I'm not sure how I'd handle it - I might not ever shop if I felt I had to . Lots of my married friends with joint accounts (whether or not they work) will say things when we are shopping like, "Oh, DH will have something to say about this!"
