Wow Suz, not only you are great with style monikers but also at describing Angie's style!!!

Jussie, I think the top is beautiful on you (both in cut and colours)!

I think this fits all the descriptors. And I love the moniker.

The analysis is also interesting - Suz love your write up of Angie’s style. Jaime - that signature comment resonates with me.

I think sometimes you don’t have all your descriptors all the time. Jussie - you could wear a monochrome playful trendy outfit - for example in navy and white. Or a colourful playful look that wasn’t trendy like a fit and flare dress, I could see you in both of these!

Beautiful Jussie. It all goes together so well. One thing I really enjoy too is seeing brands I know featured on the forum! I have always enjoyed Gorman’s bright colours. Don’t think I actually own any Gorman but have had fun looking in there.

Love the outfit, especially the colors and the metallic shoes. Lilac/lavender seem to be trending this spring.

On incorporating more trends, for me, the two biggest impact ways are trendy shoes (chunky soles, mart janes, loafers, etc.) and trendy jeans, especially the wide pairs. I find that one or the other (or both) can make a lot of older, more classic items look fresh again.

April: thank you! I feel like lilac is quite popular in the stores at the moment. I’m not sure about lilac and green as a combination being on trend but there you go.

Janet: thanks! Yes I think shoes are a good way to keep things fresh and “of the moment”. What also might play into that is the fact that shoes do wear out at least once per year, so they are something one needs to update fairly regularly…..

Bonnie: thank you

Suz: I totally hear what you are saying. It’s a matter of working out your foundational look, and which trends to choose to sprinkle on. I don’t have many foundation pieces/silhouettes that I gravitate toward consistently, though I do prefer set-in sleeves. I’m so annoyed with so many sweaters having raglan sleeves….
An on-trend jeans silhouette is definitely an option. I also am hoping to utilize on-trend accessories more. Thats challenging, because I struggle a bit with accessories generally, but I think they can have such a big impact.
And… as an aside… I really hope stilettos don’t become a major trend for everyday wear!!
I can definitely see you have signature colours that suit you very well, and I love your use of shoes and bottoms for “excitement”. Maybe for some of us bottoms are easier to fit, therefore an easier option to experiment with….
You mentioned Angie’s love of a well fitted top, and I recognize that I struggle with this. Sometimes I look at my wiws and honestly suspect some of my tops are too large, but it’s a habit I can’t seem to break. But I should probably try! You never know I may like the results of a slightly more close fitting top…

Jaime: you have a good way of explaining things, always clear and unfussy. I like it! Thank you.

LOL, Jaime, that's it, in a nutshell. I had to write a novel to say the same thing less eloquently.

So in my own case, my colour palette is signature (but I can adapt it, expand or contract it). My short silver hair is signature (but I can shift the style subtly.) Pattern mixing seems to have become signature, but I think it's just habit, TBH, and a reflection of what I have in the closet.

My footwear and bottoms tend more to the trendy side.

First of all, I totally agree that the colors - especially lavender - are trendy.
Secondly, I enjoyed Suz's summary of Angie's method (hope to see Angie's reaction later!). The main point to me is that you need to decided which part of your style you can play with and which part is signature.

What April said! You've got the trendy colours, the metallic shoe and the chunky sole. You are on trend!

Also, I'm thrilled you're trying on my moniker!

In terms of incorporating trends, going forward -- I think you probably do it somewhat intuitively already, i.e. you gravitate to the trends that you like/ suspect will suit you pretty naturally. If you feel that hasn't been happening as much as you might like, it might just mean you need a closet refresh-- think about when you last bought X type of item and whether it was a near-identical repeat of a previously owned item (in which case you might want to switch things up a bit -- or not -- depending!) I have a bad habit of repeating favourites (i.e. when one wears out I buy the next closest thing I can find) and sometimes that's a great idea but sometimes it gets me into a bit of a style rut.

For some people, switching up their footwear is the easiest way to play with trends. And trendy footwear definitely changes the flavour of a look and shows you're paying attention to your style.

But that doesn't work for everyone. For instance, trendy footwear might work well for you now in your line of work, since comfortable shoes are on trend, but what if the trend goes to stilettos? You aren't going to wear those to work!

Angie's personal method, as far as I understand it, is the following:

She always wears her signature colours, trending or not -- but she does stock up on her favourites if and when they do trend.

She tends to wear more classic pieces up top. This isn't universal - -she will experiment with sleeve shapes, and jacket lengths/ cuts (to a degree) and she will go longer or shorter with tops, depending on what silhouettes are current -- but she generally sticks to higher necklines, set in sleeves, and structure at the shoulder/ neck point, and that often means fairly classic button-front shirts and classic sweaters. In other words, tops are rarely the trendiest part of her style. Of course, if crewneck sweaters have a "moment" she is all over it! :)

She always goes for flat shoes or very low heels and she also mostly wears refined footwear -- so except when those are trending, her footwear generally isn't the most trendy part of her style, either. It's not unstylish, it's just not super trendy.

Bottoms, and especially jeans, are where you will see her play most with the trends. She refreshes every season.

Outerwear can be trendy or classic. She keeps many of her coats for years.

A lot of this has to do with her personal body type modifiers. Getting the right fit -- structure -- up top is key with her small, delicate frame. It might be similar for you?

Great color palette! I think you’ve done a great job of analyzing and honing your style — keep it up! The colors and the shoes are a good nod to the trends. If you wore a jacket or topper with this, you could choose one with a current vibe to add a bit more trend-consciousness.

Hi all,
Well thanks to you guys and your help, I have an updated style persona and descriptors:
Off-duty Crayola Princess (thanks Suz!)

And colourful, trendy, playful.

Here’s todays outfit. I feel like this outfit is colourful and playful, it’s not particularly trendy though, but hopefully has at least a little nod to the trends with the chunky soled shoe. The part of my personal style I would most like to work on is incorporating a slightly more trendy look. Any suggestions for how to do that?
I’m also working on using accessories to help pull my outfits together, hence the necklace.
Gorman silk top, Sportscraft jeans, Django and Juliet shoe. Necklace from Seed.
Thank you for any feedback or advice!!
