Fashintern, something like that would be great for Christmas day, but I don't wear loungewear on a regular basis, so it would really be wasted on me. More generally, I do wish the velvet season were longer here. I'm typing this from the patio, where it is currently a hazy 93°.

Angie, that is a really, really good reminder. My feelings are currently telling me not to hesitate adding something that makes me happy, but not to press the matter. There's a big weather shift on the horizon, though, so we'll see what that changes. (BTW, this might be the longest I've been away from Seattle since moving away in 2011, and I miss it so much! It's our home away from home.)

Cardiff Girl, well I guess I can mark it up as a plus that I wouldn't freeze to death if I just chose not to get dressed?

shevia, we are really lucky to live in a place where doing things outdoors is still practical and permitted, but even then, my mind is on maintaining a six-foot-radius and keeping my mask adjusted rather than any image I'm presenting.

Sal, lots of good suggestions! My boxy black top (in Finds above) is raw silk and it honestly doesn't feel like a very luxurious fabric to me. It's kind of like cotton, but with a slightly different hand. A really great winter jumpsuit would be fab, though. Something for outside also seems like it would strike the right note. Or instead of a statement skirt, maybe that elusive slip dress I've been low-key searching for forever. That would skirt (hah)the line between luxurious holiday loungewear and fun-for-going-out, if paired with a topper, tights, and stompy boots.

A few ideas for a special occasion/at home/holiday piece for you...

- something in raw silk....
- a lovely long statement skirt (to wear with knitwear up top)
- a winter jumpsuit/boiler suit

I thought of a Missoni Scarf - I don't know why - but I do like the patterns and thought you could carry one off. But in the age of masks I don't know if scarves are as useful. And they are super super pricey.

My other idea was something that you liked to wear outside as I suspect socialising and weekends might be home based, or outdoor based (walks, outdoor festivals etc). So whether it is a really nice outdoor coat or wide brim winter hat or cool new sneakers that make you feel festive in some way.

Jenn, feel your way through it all. The LA sense of Fall feels off to you too. You still have to get used to that. One season at a time.....

Things are extra tense in the US. Almost everything is a moving target. Rather, rinse, repeat with what you have is soooo GOOD!

Depending on your family’s traditions, cozy velvet loungewear might be another good Christmas morning option. I doubt you want to pay for shipping from here, but here’s an idea: https://www.hunkemoller.de/nac.....ion?page=5

I wish I'd put that bit about "hungry but nothing really sounds good" in the original post, but I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling that way, nemosmom, kkards, and racheylou!

Fashintern, I actually don't count masks, generally, and the new piece will be categorized as a scarf. Most of our masks are shared amongst my family and, since our city requires them every time we leave the house, we are constantly just grabbing one out of the basket to do things like take out the trash or pick up the mail. I wouldn't say I choose entirely at random, but I also wouldn't say they're a planned part of my outfit on any given day. A lacy or velvet cami is definitely right along the lines I've been thinking...something that feels luxurious for Christmas Day.

Star, "and look good in my closet" made me laugh. A lot of my clothes are looking good in my closet this year.

suntiger, minimalism holds so much appeal to me, and I saw it really clearly during the time we were in transition during the move. I feel like I've been steadily on that track for a while now, though I wish my husband were a bit more on board. Ah well.

Minaminu, I love lace, too, but I do have to be careful with it, as it often irritates my skin.

Sal and Jenni, I suppose I can understand that once I get past my envy. I'm happy with the politics of the state I live in now and my day-to-day life is certainly shaped more by local policies than national ones, but we're all impacted by what is going on in the rest of the world. My county's population is more than twice that of New Zealand and it still feels like we're just a powerless blip in the big picture.

It makes total sense to include the mask in your spreadsheet—you wear clothes to cover other body parts, and choose them carefully; the same can be true for a mask. I hear you on the ennui. The most fun I’ve had in a long time was cracking open a book from back when I was a researcher and digging in deep to the serious read. On holidays/sparkle: you’ve done admirably well adjusting to your new climate, but the holidays are a special kind of beast. So much holiday wear is tied up in looking cozy and bundled, which just isn’t appropriate next to palm trees! How about a shimmering cami, made of cotton or silk velvet to let your skin breathe?

I like how cohesive your wardrobe is, lots of interesting pieces! With a small wardrobe, I find that texture is very important to keep it varied. I am a bit bias as I love lace, but a lace shirt is surprisingly versatile and it can easily be bought preloved.

This October, I only replaced a bag and haven't made added anything new, I have a feeling that it will be the rest of the year.

That’s the best way of putting it I’ve heard. Like I’d like something special for the holidays, I always do, but I sort of can’t be bothered to actually click the buy button... I'm not quite inspired enough. Some of my bakery tees, on the practical side of things, have pretty much had it, and that also feels like too much work to do something about...

Runcarla, I'm not necessarily opposed to color, and I like sparkle well enough, but the latter is something that's really hard to find made sustainably/from natural materials. I was thinking maybe lace or embroidery or something lush like velvet...although with temps still in the 80s and 90s, I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around velvet just yet. There's a change coming, though, so maybe within the next week or two that'll start seeming more plausible.

JenniNZ, that's seriously amazing, especially since you haven't been under the same level of COVID restrictions as here! I rarely have new pieces go unworn for long...definitely on Team Wear!

rachylou, I'm honestly feeling pretty tired of what I have...it's just that I'm equally uninterested in new things. It's like when you're hungry but nothing really sounds good...or is that just me?

Great job. Can you believe I have only bought 7 things all year? And 4 are yet to be worn- thrifted white peasant top from June, striped top from August, black biker leggings from September, and silvery pants from last weekend. The last two are more for autumn/winter next year. I have edited out 16 items.

Another month gone, and I'm a bit late reporting in, but I definitely could use a distraction this afternoon, so here I am.

1. Still not buying much. No pandemic rebound shopping for me yet. I added one item to my wardrobe--the Charlie scarf--bringing me up to twelve for the year. I actually debated whether to count my new filtered mask scarf as a wardrobe item at all, since I don't count masks, but I ultimately decided it's as much scarf as mask, so into the spreadsheet it went.
2. (Mostly) practical purchases. Photo one is from my tracking spreadsheet. A full quarter of my 2020 purchases are already past the 30-wears mark. Two more are super close. The items on the lower end were either a) bought recently, b) just coming into season, or c) in the case of the wrap belt, bought pre-pandemic and less useful for staying home.
3. Hitting a boredom wall. I just haven't had the energy and motivation to play in my wardrobe and try new things. That's fine...my energy has gone to other creative endeavors, but I miss the fun of getting dressed to go somewhere. As I said last month, LA is still in the most restrictive tier of California's "slow and stringent" reopening plan. I don't expect this to change anytime soon, but I'm seriously thinking about adding something festive and fun to wear at home for the holiday season. I'm open to suggestions.
4. Oddly disinterested. Even though I feel like I could use something new and exciting, nothing in particular has piqued my interest, despite the massive volume of catalogs arriving in my mailbox each day. This could be because it's still too warm for winter clothes to be appealing or because we usually have some upcoming travel or events and don't this year or because I've lost the ability to imagine myself wearing something out in the world.

So that's that, I guess. Not buying much, wanting something but not sure what, wearing what I have.
