I have a negative review. I've been looking for a new under eye concealer. Joise Maran Argan creamy concealer crayon was recommended to me at Sephora. 95% of the time I wear a L'Oreal tube mascara. That day I wasn't. The makeup person put it on me with the matching foundation. It seemed to look good. But by the end of the day my mascara had melted into a dark shadow under my eyes. Plus I felt over all the foundation was heavy.
Right now I'm trying L'Oreal Visible lift blur concealer. A lot cheaper, and so far I'm happy with it.

I got a sample of Belif True Cream Moisturizer Bomb at Sephora. I really like and will probably purchase the full size.
http://www.sephora.com/the-tru.....lif_lp_bes

ETA as far as Hyaluronic acids, I have Peter Thomas Roth

VIZ-1000™ 75 percent Hyaluronic Acid Complex. But I've been inconsistent about using it, so I'm really not sure if it's making a difference.

@Zibbets, honestly I haven't done it lately because I just haven't polished my nails in a year. I used to be quite devoted and just fell out of habit. No doubt replaced by my new kbeauty obsession.

Ps. I've used Vaseline, Carmex, any old lip balm or emollient. Bet olive oil would work in a pinch and give you italian food cravings at the same time.

Thanks bj. I read that method on the internet and thought I should leave it to the pros, but I think you are probably more patient than they were. Are your nails rough and stripped looking afterward?? I keep thinking this can't be what people do all the time or they'd have no nails left. :(

I think I need nail oil. Thanks for the tip!

Zibbets, I take off gel manis at home the same way without the heat and the scraping. Cover nails with acetone soaked cotton balls and foil. One Sherlock episode later, the polish slides right off like little colored nail shaped plastic chips. A little nail oil and done.

I think painting the nails are more traumatic than taking it off.

And I'd rather take off gel nails than bikini wax. *shiver*

I'm not really a manicure person, so maybe I'm missing something, but I recommend thinking long and hard before you ever get a gel manicure. We were out of town for a wedding recently and had an hour to kill and a very nice nail salon near our hotel so my daughters and I got beautiful french manicures - gel polish on our natural nails. When they started, I asked if regular nail polish remover would take it off and they said, "Oh yes!"
Well. There must have been a misunderstanding because regular polish remover doesn't touch this stuff. We had to pay to have them removed and worse than that, the top layer of our nails came off with the polish. It's not the end of the world, obviously, since it will grow out, but if I had known how dull and damaged our nails would look afterward, I never would have done that. To get it off they wrapped our nails with acetone-soaked cotton, folded them in aluminum foil, put our hands under heaters to speed up the process and then scraped off the polish. Yikes. I'd rather have a bikini wax or go to the dentist.

Enjoyed these reviews! I have used Korean BB creams for years (my fave is Dr Jart Black Label) but have not tried the face care products much. These serums sound like cheaper alternatives to my Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum.

I love Derma E... their tea tree and E cream got me through my acne-plagued pregnancy since it was the only thing that worked since I couldn't use my usual products.

Thanks Laura. I have tried some new mascaras by Benefit. I have always been faithful to Lancome Hypnose but I wanted to try Brown mascara. I thought it might be a softer look for my "aging" eyes. Hypnose does not come in brown. :( I still prefer Hypnose. I did not like the Roller Lash by Benefit. I have another one to try.

So many great product recs, hurrah! BJ, I'm right there with you - I've had a really stressful personal life recently, and I think I'm getting into skincare to give myself something 'neutral' and under my control to do. That, and it's always nice to look better...

Sterling, like Isabel I only use an OTC retinol right now - I'd used RoC in the past and right now am using a cream from Alpha Skincare. I don't have a dermatologist right now to get a scrip for official Retin-A, which is OK since I think I'd have to work up to it since my skin is pretty sensitive. I've heard good things about the new teledermatology service Curology, though - it's only $20 a month and you can get tretinoin in your prescription from them.

Good review of sheet masks easily available on Amazon. I too have a fat face and cotton masks rather than silk masks are easier to stretch to cover my face.

https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com.....zon-prime/

Will pick up the honey hydrogel masks when I'm feeling flush. In the meantime, I buy in bulk for daily use.

Just started using cerave pm with a few drops of Paula's choice niacinamide booster. I add that booster to mizon hyaluronic acid ampoule and to the sulwhasoo balanced emulsion. Really accelerated hyperpigmentation fading.

I'm using retin a and Paula's choice 8% aha on alternating days and have added dr jart ceramidin cream to help with the dryness. Top off with gekka sleeping pack (sticky and not super hydrating) though will swap for laneige water sleeping mask or cosrx ultimate rice sleeping mask.

My skin routine has gotten out of control lately.

Wanted to add... I like micellar water a lot for taking off sunscreen at the end of the day. Otherwise I tend to not wash my face at all at night because I hate splashing water all over the sink. The only brand I've tried is Simple and I like it well enough.

Laura, this is awesome !!!! Thank you. I also am reviewing and tweaking my skincare routine this time of year.

I have been using the Micellar water by Garnier. I like it a lot. I don't find that I need to do anything after. I really love this in the Winter. I use it in the morning to avoid harsh things because my skin gets so dry in winter. I LOVE this in the summer when it is super hot and humid and I just want to rinse off during the day or after swimming. I keep some chilled.

I also have been using the Derm e hyaluronic for about 3 years. I use it wait a couple of beats and then pat on moisturizer : sometimes Oil of Olay and most recently Clarin's beauty flash baume - which I also use as a moisture mask. If my skin is uber dry, I use argan oil then top it off with a rich moisturizer. ( I pat it all on...I don't rub ).

I have been using an OTC retinol since my mid 20s. I started with RoC, which is wonderful and then switched to Green cream 9 a few years ago. I LOVE Green cream, but it is very strong and I had to work my way up to every day. In the Winter I mix it with a little Oil of Olay.

During the day, in the winter, I use oil of olay mixed in with Philosophy's powdered Vitamin C and then sunblock patted on. Mostly Neutragena Dry face sunblock.

I do a glyocolic pad on my face once a week in winter if I can tolerate. In summer, I do 2 week.

I AM getting sick of so many products and mixes so I just ordered and received Body Merry retinol which contains hyaluronic acid and vitamins. So I am going to drop some product and just use this one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod.....#038;psc=1

I have never tried sheet masks...you have me curious now.

All this may explain why I am not on YLF so much anymore. LOL !

Oh, I wash with dove soap, Noxema or Pond's cold cream dependent on the season.

I started using Cerave PM during college because my roommate used the AM/PM set; the AM leaves a white cast on my face but I loved (and still love) the feel of the PM lotion. I use it right after getting out of the shower in the morning, and if I'm wearing a Japanese sunscreen with alcohol in it I will put that on top of the Cerave without waiting for it to dry.

Lately I've been getting bored with the Cerave PM--because, well, it's a pretty boring unscented lotion in an opaque 3 oz bottle that isn't the easiest shape to fit into my travel toiletries bag--so I tried out a few higher-end moisturizers from Sephora. Still haven't found anything better than Cerave though. I tried a heavier Origins night cream and returned it because it left residue on my face.

I have been enjoying the Jane Iredale Pommisst hydration spray now that the weather is getting colder and drier. It has a nice scent and really makes my face feel plump and hydrated. I use it to set my mineral makeup and also in the morning after cleansing if my face feels drier than usual.

Happy fall, y'all! As usual, chime in with your own recent finds, recs, etc.

I’ve recently started getting into Asian beauty lines and reading a lot about the “Korean skincare” approach (asianbeauty on reddit is a great place to get info) so some of the below are Asian lines or Asian-inspired products. Thanks to the internet, most brands seem to be accessible worldwide, and there are several online stores that specialize in curating Asian products for the non-Asian, English-speaking market.

Garnier micellar water (blue cap)
I was looking for a full-size micellar water to have around and I kinda wasn’t thinking when picking up this one: Garnier makes two different micellar waters, one with a pink cap (regular) and one with a blue cap that’s designed to take off waterproof eye makeup. I picked up the latter, and it is very nice and does what it says. However, it leaves a slight oily residue, a lot like Lancome Bifacil or any other two-phase eye makeup remover, so I have to rinse it off or cleanse again afterward, which sorta defeats the purpose of a one-step product. However, if you’re looking for a dupe for Bifacil that’s tons cheaper, check this stuff out for sure.

Derma-e hyaluronic serum (grocery store)
My main point of comparison for this is with the Laneige water bank serum. A lot of people mention that the Laneige has a lot of perfume in it; I can smell it and it’s not my favorite, but it doesn’t seem to irritate my skin. This one, on the other hand, stings when it’s applied, especially when my skin is feeling dried out. I’ve been experimenting with putting it on when my skin is still quite damp, or right after a watery toner, because I read that in arid climates, hyaluronic acid can actually pull water out of your skin rather than the reverse, because there's not enough humidity in the air. So far, that does seem to reduce the stinging and improve plumpness.

Derma-e microdermabrasion scrub (grocery store)
I made the mistake of trying this for the first time a day after using a glycolic peel, and that led to a ridiculous amount of redness. *slaps forehead* Other than that, this is a nice fine-grained scrub, more gentle than something like the St. Ives apricot scrub. It’s kind of pricey compared to St. Ives or similar, but you get a ton in the container.

Daiso sake lotion (Daiso)
First off, Japanese ‘lotions’ are more like what we in the US would call toners or serums - they’re a watery liquid, not thick at all. This one’s made with fermented sake - ferments of sake, olives, peaches, or all kinds of other things are quite common in the Asian lotion/essence space. The resulting microorganisms are supposed to reduce acne and irritation, kind of like probiotics but topical. I honestly can’t tell if it’s doing anything, but it smells nice so I’ll finish up the bottle.

Daiso hyuralonate sheet masks (Daiso)
Best thing is that these are super-cheap: a package of 7 masks for $1.50 (Daiso is a 100 Yen store, the Japanese equivalent of a dollar store, and the branch near me sells everything for $1.50). Other than that, they’re unexceptional: OK but not amazing.

Beauty Treats vitamin E sheet mask (Daiso)
This had plenty of serum in the package but overall I was unimpressed with it. It left my skin feeling tight and itchy, and the mask itself wasn’t wide enough for my face (I have a fat American face, apparently, lol).

My Beauty Diary rose moisturizing sheet mask (local Asian grocery)
Am I the only woman in the world who doesn’t really like the smell of roses? It’s just so cloying and, well, floral. This sheet mask is quite rose-y but seems to do a decent job of moisturizing. I will use up the rest of the package but not repurchase.

My Beauty Diary bird’s nest sheet mask (Target online)
I keep waiting for a sheet mask to blow me away with its amazingness; it hasn’t happened yet but this one has gotten the closest. Skin-calming, nice mellow scent, pleasant texture.

CeraVe PM lotion
This product is beloved in skincare circles on the internet because of its ingredients, which include niacinamide, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid, all of which are great for your skin. It’s called PM because it doesn’t have sunscreen, and they offer an AM version that does, but there’s no reason you can’t use it anytime. It’s not heavy or occlusive like a night cream. I am not bowled away by this yet, just kinda meh - but part of the reason may be the hyaluronic acid in arid climates issue as mentioned above.
