ooo lots of great advice

Gaylene ,loungewwear is brilliant actually...I can do that as I seem to have misplaced some (or the daughters borrowed it)

Nicole, it is reassuring to know I am not alone. Like you and JS and Una say, if I wait there are more options and it may pass a little.

I don't know why I felt so very anxious, but part of it may be that in shops here you need to jump fast or things disappear. SO I did some reverse therapy now...I decided to go out and try every single burgundy thing that caught my eye and then decide which to actually buy. In the process I found the shoes too high heeled, the sweater too itchy and the other sweaters not my style, and blouses were not tempting, and so on and so on. I didn't buy anything but I tried alot and right now I feel free of my obsession. It will probably return but in the meantime I feel calmer. Other note..I decided to solve the shoe issue by dying a pair of shoes and a pair of booties that I am not wearing. might as well. They are comfy enough and the style is fine...just not crazy about the color. Yeah for Rae and Claire dye inspirations.

I struggle hardcore with obsessing. Once i get something in my mind it's a serious struggle for me to get it out and i'll admit a lot of times that doesn't happen and i just give in to whatever it is.

Why is burgundy making you frustrating? Because you haven't found the perfect item in that color yet? Or because of budget reasons?

Whatever it is i would say take a deep breath and relax. Something i reminded myself the other day is we haven't even officially started fall yet and there are going to be A LOT more fall clothes coming out and i'm sure a lot of them will be in glorious dark red shades.

I get sent "W" magazine for free and in the September issue it's like every page i turn has outfits or accessories in dark reds. It's glorious. :)

ETA: Also! I know this is said often search in retails places you normally do not! I saw beautiful waxed burgundy jeans at Marshalls a couple weeks back for $20. I didn't buy them because i had just bought silver metallic jeans at H&M but it never even crossed my mind to look there.

Desire comes in at the eyes. While you would enjoy some burgundy items, how much would you be obsessed with this idea if you hadn't been looking at it?

Like Una I've learned my lesson not to jump too soon. The trend will trickle down and give us all more options. I was focused on the new colors and how to add them without going overboard (like I usually do) when I realized that I have a burgundy patent handbag from about 6 years ago and a nice Boden schoolboy sweater jacket that's about 5 years old. This will tide me over for a bit. I would like to add some shoes - searching for the perfect burgundy heeled loafers, but that's it. (It helps that burgundy is not one of my favorite colors on me)

Yes, for sure. And I've learned that I often go overboard and then regret it. The Equipment shirts are an exception here but I've controlled myself by getting three off e-bay gradually. Now that I know they are a staple for me, I can add as I see fit.

Obsessions that have worked out: skinnies, boots, Equipment shirts, black blazers/jackets
Obsessions that have not worked out: cardigans, everything YLFers post that I love seeing on them

I've learned to wait out my obsessions now.

hmmm, I like the enabling Mo...problem is I want it all....how to narrow down to a sweater OR shoes and not both? or scarf? or blouse?

Suz, I did look at a scarf, a burgundy background with white stars...

Thistle, you are in a good place for this season...these colors are great and would have gone so well with orange slacks,,,if I owned some

OK, I'm going to let you in on my shopping secret-- lounge wear. Although my wardrobe consists of mainly neutrals, and I am trying to limit my shopping this year, I give myself a pass on both counts when it comes to replacing my at-home wear.

My formerly "oh, so fresh", spring/summer turquoise, yellow, and coral items are getting to the end of their life cycle and I'm currently on the look out for a pair of burgundy/forest green flannel bottoms with a burgundy or green top to wear with them. I'm also considering a pair of new wool socks in those colors to wear inside my winter boots.

A forum thread a year or so ago about lounge wear made me realize that, instead of wearing the same old stretched-out, faded things, I could indulge my color fantasies in the non-public area of my wardrobe. Since most of my lounge wear is not very costly and does get worn quite a bit during a season, a semi-annual replacement plan works quite nicely and is a much less expensive way to indulge my cravings.

I understand this, but mine is more seasonally driven than color driven. I get to Tahoe and start craving boots and corduroy, then - bam! - I'm back in FL and hunting down the perfect green sandals and flowy, grecian style dresses. Sigh.
I am totally in for wine color and forest green for the coming season!! I have wine skinny cords, and a green cashmere cardi both ready and waiting! (by the by, neither of those items cost me over $50, NWT, so perhaps you *can* afford one good piece for the season)

I am actually pretty excited for the color trend this fall. Burgundy and Forrest green are two colors that look really nice on me, and being able to find them easily is a bonus.

I am really replacing most of my wardrobe after DD completely changed my body shape. Nine months after her birth, I am at my pre-pregnancy weight but none of my clothes fit like they used to!

I am trying to balance a few classic pieces with some more trendy items. Still, as my body continues to change through this journey, I am not inclined to buy investment pieces outside of handbags and shoes. But I am determined to dress the body I have right now well.

I am struggling with obsessions now. I had before an obsession for orange slacks to make a certain look and after repeated trials I think I am finally getting over it....maybe, no guarantee. But now the new fall palette has me obessing over burgundy and dark forest green. I think the green might be manageable...not totally crazy there...but burgundy is making me frustrated already and the real season has not even hit the stores.

First, my budget isn't planned for sept and oct splurge as I am waiting for the good riding boots to show up in the stores and I have ordered a custom skirt and slacks. So although I might be able to find a low end (i.e H&M) item to fill the desire, it just won't make me happy having low quality long term.

Next, I have a maroon skirt, a little big, that can be taken in and technically fill the burgundy criteria, right? But then there are slacks, sweaters, and worst shoes, out there tempting me. And all are fab and oh, could be used with black slacks, or a skirt, or you know....you get the idea.

So not only can I not afford one good item, I cannot even figure out which item I would want if I could. So it is getting so hard to hold control as I just want to go out and by one of everything..

Argh. Do you others ever get so obsessed with a new trend like this and just feel it wont be satisfied...and is dangerous to even try to fulfill because it might be an never ending journey?

weakening...weakening...
