His textures and colors and layers of richness were so extravagant! What a rare privilege it was to see so many of his creations at once, as it were. I haven't been to very many fashion exhibitions. The only other one I can recall was the Daphne Guinness exhibit at FIT in NYC. I took well over 100...these are just a few. The exhibit was very interesting in that it not only included more than 300 couture outfits but actually discussed and presented objects from Dior's life prior to becoming a designer. For example, he established an art gallery and almost every item that he had in an exhibit (both paintings and sculptures, all by well-known names) were in the current exhibition -- along with photos of the original exhibition! What a rare treat. Also...hundreds of shoes, jewels, muslins...such a visual feast. Also there were many photos of famous women in his gowns, mostly taken by the very best photographers of the day. Amazingly, one is permitted to photograph almost everything in this exhibit. Going to a major display of couture fashion such as this kind of gives me the heebie-jeebies! I desire to honor the designer with what I wear but with my own humble wardrobe. That blouse, for example, is from Target 's 'Who What Wear' line. Still I felt appropriate and comfortable. Coincidentally we saw this exhibition on the first day of Paris Fashion Week and there were some amazing fashions waiting in line with us! What a wonderful experience. PS just a few months ago I finally found the perfect dress for the Dries Van Noten exhibition that I saw here in 2014. The final exhibition area featured a stunning Las Vegas-style light and sound show on the 30-foot high walls and ceiling! It enhanced the exhibition and did not overwhelm it at all. It's often made from wool and they might also be plaid. The ones I see here are generally made out of a thinner woven fabric. Often they are folded in half, length-wise and the ends are looped through around the neck. Sometimes the ends have fringe.
