This might be the best thing that I have seen or read all day -- reading other people's list has the effect of calming me down both for differences (I'm not buying a cattle ranch or a Tesla) and for similarities (my cat honked up a furball ON OUR BED at 6:15 AM).

I started writing down my Mongo list, but decided not to (I don't have enough time!). Mostly I want to
(a) get through the rest of this month (that has the holidays, my husband's birthday, my brother's new fiancee's birthday, my birthday, the Stanford-Connecticut women's basketball game, and New Year's Eve), and (b) make sure that my baby-making activity happens at baby-likely times!

Now, I'm going to go drink a glass of wine because, you know, if I get lucky with (b), then there'll be no more of that for a while

The lists were funny but only because they aren't mine. A cattle ranch?? OMG

- I have more gifts to buy.
- Haven't determined if/when/where/with who we are doing Xmas dinner.
-The new house is finally moving but the delays mean I have to do a lot in a few weeks.
- I picked the exterior colors a few weeks ago but the colors were rejected by the developer so I have to squeeze it in again.
- Had plan meeting for house and now need to decide what type of lighting to add to ensuite and then pick them.
- Need to meet decorator about interior, lighting company, bath company, and a few others as well as reselect exterior.
= pick tile for tub, flooring for baths, interior paint color, counters for bath, hardware for cabinets, sink, faucets, and lots I forgot.
- Need to make arrangements to be out of country for 4 weeks in January
- Need to plan my clothes for January.
- Need to do pre-op EKG and other stuff between Xmas and vacation.
- Go to doctor.
- Have a huge project with tight deadline before Xmas and haven't rec'd the files yet.
- Need to initiate staffing for position before I leave.
- House is a mess.

Okay, comparatively, it doesn't look that bad.

Janet, I turned 50 last month and am still waiting for peri-menopause to be over. Desperately waiting.

Oh and Rae, my bottom lip is lined with cold sores and I have almost scratched the skin off my abdomen where the eczema rash has flared up.

It could be worse though. I could not be going on 4 weeks of vacation.

Haha, I think I can feel your pain a bit! I started making a list of all the household DIY tasks that I want to do, and it is quite impressive. I have bathroom tiles to replace, flooring to put down in two rooms and two closets, curtains to make, holes to fill in a newly-repaired wall, repainting in two rooms, caulking to replace around the tub and kitchen sink, a warped board in a cupboard to try and repair or replace, a garden full of dead leaves to sweep up, mouldy window sills to clean and re-caulk, a bird feeder to fill and hang up somewhere, and a picture given to us by my brother-in-law *last* Christmas that I don't especially like but need to find a home for.

And then there are the ongoing decluttering and closet remodelling projects. Well, I haven't really done anything on the closet except ponder, but my frustration with its current design is increasing every day.

Rae, you are WISE beyond your years to choose that path! Though honestly I do enjoy it all most of the time - it's just the remodel sending me over the edge.

My children - let's see, one is human. The others eat crickets and require heat and humidity to survive, bring home dead voles and yuk up hairballs, dig through the trash, and require lots of attention along with their human sibling!

Oh, Una, hang in there! Now that the list is written, cross things off as you go - it is cathartic! For me, anyway.

Janet... CATTLE RANCH? And a TESLA? So stinkin' cool!

If it helps at all, you are both superwomen to me. Stress literally makes me sick - no, really.. I get cankers and rashes and tonsil stones (don't ask). So instead of doing all those wonderful things and getting stuff done, I just have to unplug. No one gets Christmas cards from me, I hardly ever wash the outside of my car, my children can all see in the dark and bathe and feed themselves... even though you are overwhelmed right now, I'm super amazed at all you've taken on!

MaryK, that is well-deserved! I get to feel that way in a few weeks, after Christmas when we go on our vacation. At least I hope so. Turns out we have five family members and a couple of good friends (plus their two children) joining us. I will be doing everything in my power to avoid becoming Julie McCoy, Cruise Director, so I can relax on the beach with a cocktail and a book!

Wow! I am in awe of the number of tasks you have on your lists. I've been overwhelmed by just being busy at work + having a house guest who is responsible for his own food/transport.

Other than cleaning house furiously before arrival of said houseguest and laundry, I haven't accomplished anything non work related in two weeks. No cooking. No working out. Haven't been posting on YLF.

Ok, see, this is therapeutic! Elisabeth, you got me cracking up. Head lice, yuck! And yes, Una, these other lists are reminding me of other things to worry about too. But at least now I'm laughing.

Hubs is too excited about this ranch -- his brother still lives in TX so this is a business venture for the two of them. No cattle yet. But it's especially funny since he and I both flirt around quite a bit with vegetarianism. If anyone told me ten years ago that my life would look like it does now, I never would have believed it. But it's all good.

Oh my, I think more than one glass might be needed. Does making the list help or hinder. I might be tempted to make one but it might just be too scary. Agh, lice check....started to itch right away. Cattle ranch - oh so cool! Only 2 w/e left to shop - can that really be true. Today I am in bed recovering from surgery last night, letting all the sedation wear off. Could be that list making in this condition could be quite interesting.

Also, look into dentist appointment for tooth cracked LAST YEAR
fold laundry
Put fridge on Craigslist
Wait, clean out fridge first
Prepare guest room for guests
Plan cocktail party with optional lack of kitchen facilities
Buy fireworks for New Year's Eve
Drop off boots to be soled with grippy soles
Bring two boxes of old toys to Goodwill
Dog needs her shots or day care will boot her out

You guys have given me the biggest laugh I've had all day. And I feel oddly calmer, knowing that I'm not the only one waking up in the middle of the night panicking about stuff. Maybe it'll feel good to get mine out too. About half of my condensed chaos happens in November, because the kids share the same birthday in the last week of November (really!) and the party this year was a lot of work (but at least it's over...sorry, Una). And it's been emotional, with my aunt unexpectedly passing away, but at least the funeral is over, too, and I'm all cried out. Plus I had the flu, and spent two weeks cleaning up vomit because my kids also had the flu, although thankfully not at the same time I did. But there's always more to come in December. At least we're not buying a cattle farm.

Daughter's play is Friday. Need to assemble costume.
Car needs back brakes replaced. Have postponed twice.
Follow-up lice check.
Check daughter's friend's head for lice. Find a way to politely explain to her father that she probably still has them.
Worry about increasingly senile mother.
Worry about father's retinas becoming detached -- again.
Kids are overdue for dentist.
Write and mail Christmas cards to English family. It's probably too late for them to make it on time.
Figure out what to send English family for Christmas.
Do Christmas shopping for Canadian family.
Re-check kids for @&%$ing lice.
Get a friend to re-check me for lice.
Clean dog's infected ear.
Worry about dog. She's 15 and failing.
Get more medication for dog's endocrine disorder.
Clean dog turds off the kitchen floor (she does this at least once a day now, no matter how often I take her out).
Damn. Son stepped in dog turd on kitchen floor.
Deal with filthy fish tank.
Finish painting picket fence that I started in August.
Deal with other household chores that never seem to end.
Exercise? What's that?
Daughter needs help with violin practice.
Figure out if I'm going to go back to school, or just try to get contracts.
How do I get contracts?
Waste time on YLF to put off doing all this stuff.

Where's my wine? I want one too.

OMG I prescribe large glasses of wine for Una and Janet. I have a very short list but annoying none the less

It's 4.45am and I'm wide awake cause the cat just honked up a furball!
My car leaks, the windows keep fogging up and the drivers door lock is playing up, it's actually quicker and easier to walk to work than wrestle to get the door open and then wait 10 minutes for it to demist!
I have 2 shopping weekends left till Christmas (I'm away the weekend before) ack! Thankfully I do have a list of what to get but the thought of braving the shops breaks me out in a cold sweat!

On the plus side its freezing so I get to wear my lovely snug new puffer coat and fur trapper hat x

Brain dump! It is good to write it all out like this.

I know this.

How crazy am I? I'm avoiding making a list like this right now....

Hey, at least now you have a to-do list! Just try to check one off each day...of you get to more, then great! On lazy, overwhelming days, do the easy no-brainer ones. I have a list like this floating around my head too. I find I'm much more productive with it when I get it written out, so I can see what I have to do.

Maybe you can start with Pajama day at school tomorrow....lay your kids pajamas out, and check it off!

Oh jeez.

Maybe it's good to get all this out.

- Husband in TX is visiting his ailing grandmother in the hospital, but also...
- Buying a 400+ acre ranch! Ack! We are gonna own a cattle ranch in TX, that is freakin crazy!
- Oh, and he's buying a truck too. For the ranch. Getting rid of his SUV.
- But wait, we're also receiving the Tesla Model S in a few weeks (hubs ordered it months ago). Holy crap, why are we buying all these vehicles?
- Wishing I could visit sister and niece before Xmas, can't fit it in, wondering when I'll get to see them.
- Worried about how I'll look in a swimsuit in Hawaii after Xmas.
- Should I send out Xmas cards this year?
- Need to compose and send newsletter to art mailing list.
- Need to frame two huge pieces for a client this week. Nervous because the large print may not stay flat under the mat, trying to formulate plan for good framing.
- Need to send ideas to another client about art for her client's dining room project.
- Need to photograph installation I did months ago.
- Need to submit for some gallery shows and competitions.
- Oh crap, who's going to watch the dogs and house while we're away?
- Dogs are overdue for their vet appointment.
- I need to schedule my talk with the ob/gyn about my fibroid surgery.
- Do I really need to? Can't I just will myself into menopause right now?
- Our refinance is supposed to close soon.
- Gotta get on finding a good contractor to do our bathroom renovation.
- Oh, and have the window blind company come out and fix the stupid non-working blind in our bedroom.
- I need to get out the Christmas decorations and make some feeble attempt at holiday festivity.
- I miss my mom.
- I need to run 3-4 miles tomorrow morning.
- I'm almost out of moisturizer. Must stop at Target.
- Remember to leave a check for the guy who cut up and discarded the fallen trees from out back yard.

I think I need another glass of wine now.

An yes, this is all very much in the category of First World Problems. I'm not complaining. Just a lot on the mind. So I understand, Una!
