Okay, ladies!

I tried on the jeans again today and took actual videos. It was so helpful in letting me be objective -- moreso than photos, because I could see the fabric move with me. But it retained then objectivity of photos. So there's a little tip and lesson learned.

Good news is the stomach feel like less of an issue. I think maybe I was a bit bloated the last couple times I tried them on? They fit much less snug this time. Whether that's me or the jean material giving a tiny bit, idk.

Bad news? The fabric! I didn't realize how stiff the black denim is. It creases and wrinkles terribly! And the blue wash is so strange on me. The entire crotch and stomach is dark blue, while the legs have been sanded or lightened. It looks like I'm wearing "underwear" or a 1980s leotard with light denim leggings underneath it.

You have totally buoyed my soul and given me the courage to follow my gut and...return the jeans. They just aren't a good fit for me. And that is okay. I'm frustrated I can't go and just try on a bunch of jeans in a store. But there is no guarantee I would find anything doing that. So it's a moot point. My American Eagle leggings, while not flattering, have worn like iron. So in the meantime, I might try their jeans or some leggings from them to get me by.

They look good to me. I always find ALL pants stretch... The Alexa Kung video that was posted here... there’s a hilarious part where they go on about jeans being uncomfortable and how comfortable jeans are a myth and how you need to suffer for beauty... lol, jus’ sayin’...

I have some NYDJ’s and had to go down 2 sizes to get a good fit. I think each style can be a bit different. I can’t see anything wrong in the tummy section, but would never buy jeans that were not comfy, as I would always grab others that were. This is also the case for me and heels, I may love the look, but will go with the comfort first and foremost.

I don't see the tummy pooch you see. I do have to say, any pieces I've had to futz with too much end up sitting on my shelf. For that reason alone, I would send them back.

I own one pair of NYDJ which are very expensive in NZ ( imported from LA). I paid $159 NZ in 2015, which was on sale. I have only worn them 13 times because they are just not that comfortable on my abdomen. They are my usual size, a US 10 which is NZ 14 and I am very happy I didn’t size down because they would have been much too tight. I had to add some elastic at the back waistband as well for my sway back. They *do* do as advertised and make me look “a whole size smaller” as the ads here say, but overall I have been disappointed. It’s a shame as I love the sort of silver-on-black snakeskin look- have since bought 4 other snakeskin pants which are all more comfy.
So just from my experience, I would caution you. The style is not the same of course. This is an old 2017 pic, sorry it doesn’t show them that well.

I wonder if there is some kind of panels attached to the sides and the middle seam that less stretchy and more stiff ( one of those "slimming" or "lifting" or whatever it's called ). It could be the reason the jeans isn't feeling right in the lower part of the stomach.

I think the fit looks good. In my experience with NYDJ (not with this style), if I buy my usual size (rather than the size down that is recommended), the waist is too big, and the pants slide down, making them uncomfortable (creating baggy crotch). I had to let go of a pair of NYDJ skinnies that I really liked for this reason. So I'm with Smittie--if the waist feels good, they should be fine. I do not see the poochiness you are referring to. If it's something that's going to bug you, even if these are the correct size, then that might be a reason to return. But I think they look really nice on you. I like the seam detail down the front.

Keturah, the waist on my pair hit rather low, certainly below the naval. They do not feel tight anywhere but could run a bit short. Mine are just below the ankle bone worn full length, and I am 5’3” tall.
I am wearing them today and hope to get a photo. The ankle area is slim enough that they can easily be rolled for a cropped look.. the original dark denim has faded a bit to a medium dark denim shade, especially along the seams.

Crst, that makes sense! I'm sure it all depends on style and the type of denim used.

KiKiG, I was hoping to wear these with fitted, shorter-length blouses--so more 1950s/60s. Otherwise, I would be more tempted to just wear with a longer, looser tee or tunic and be happy. And I still might wear longer shirts with them. But I definitely want the option to wear shorter shirts. I am knitting a very 1950s style blouse and it will just hit or go over the waistband of these.

Joy, Oh! I was hoping someone would have a pair of these to compare with! I wasn't necessarily going for a legging look with them. But I did want them fitted. I'm a little worried the waist (the elastic part) would be a little big if I size up. But you're right, they don't seem to really stretch a ton overall--not like leggings do. The waist is comfy. But lower stomach area is so snug! I have to do some adjusting and rearranging of my stomach to get things to lay right. That says they are maybe too tight to me.

Smittie, the waist itself (the elastic part) feels okay. The rest of the stomach part feels snug. I can breath, but I have to do adjusting and maneuvers to get them on.

I get the over all feeling with these pants, that if they don't stretch out some, I could only wear them a few hours at most. They just don't feel comfortable enough to wear all day long or to wear on a day trip. I think I hesitate to go up because, what if they don't fit in a couple months? Sorry if I sound like the most indecisive person in the world! Thank you all for holding my hand a bit with this. <3

The fit looks good to me and I don’t actually notice the tummy pooch. Or at least, it seems like a small amount that nobody would notice, especially with sweaters or how you have it styled with the purple top. Looks good! However, how does the waist feel? If it feels fine, I would keep them.

I have had these exact same jeans for at least a couple of years. They survived the lastest cut because of the elastic waist. First, I do not do leggings. I size up to get a looser fit and that is what I did in these. They are my usual size or bigger and have worn and washed well. They have never been in a hot dryer, just tumbled on no heat about 20 minutes at most. Since mine are a loose fit, I really can’t address if they will stretch. They don’t seem to and do not get baggy in the rear. I usually wear them twice before washing on cold permanent press cycle. They do not seem stretched out on the second wearing. If I were you I would try a size up.
Warning: they only have rear pockets

I really like how they fit at the waist. My question to you is this: even if the tummy weirdness is a feature, does it matter in terms of what you are going to wear with it? It would not, for me, I almost always have my shirt or top hitting just above where my legs meet my torso--that is my personal sweet spot of flattery.

I bought two pair of their jeans. ($15 at Ross or Marshalls, couldn’t resist!). I really like them. But I bought my regular size and the pair I wore yesterday shrunk a little in the dryer and then didn’t stretch out much. So it probably depends on the style of NYJD jeans.

Lynn, thanks for sharing that! I will try wearing them around the house (carefully—I have a child and cats) and see what happens. I think I’m nervous because their return policy is for unworn jeans in 30 days (tags intact, original condition, etc.). So I’m afraid to just commit and wear them. I could try reselling them if they don’t work out. But a little nervous nonetheless. Lol!

They are still denim and pretty stretchy. Just not full-out leggings. I’m very impressed with the quality. Just not used to things being so snug. (I’m used to really cheap jeans from Old Navy.)

I’m no expert on judging fit on others but I have worn NYDJ jeans for years. I’ve never worn the leggings but the jeans stretch out one whole size. I go down a size with every pair and they fit great after wearing one time and washing and drying. I really like the brand. Try sitting in them for awhile before you decide.

Hello dear Fab’ers! I bought two pair of NYDJ jeggings on a huge sale: $44 a pair! I’ve never tried the brand before and I have a dilemma. I sized down as stated on the website and ordered a size 16. I love how they fit my curves. But I think they’re maybe too snug. See photos.

You can see a very weird lower stomach roll/pooch. I have some lower tummy, but my stomach never looks like this even in leggings. I think it’s the jeans. I bought them in black and blue denim and they both do the strange stomach compression roll. Overall, I feel pretty compressed in them, though the elastic waist makes breathing easy.

I’m worried to size up as I’ve been working to lose some weight. I’m also worried the jeans will loosen up with wear and be sloppy. But I love the style! Very 50s/early 60s.

Is it worth trying size 18?
Send them back?
Keep current size and wear them?

What do you think?
