Another Uniqlo lover here too, and I don't have one locally, so whenever I travel I try to stock up. I love your scarves, the perfect souvenir for your holiday!

Love the outfit with the polka dot sweater, and it is only better because you thrifted it 4 years ago rather than bought it today at Zara! Uniqlo is fantastic.

I love William Morris designs. Uniqlo looks like a great spot. Zara always scares me. So crowded.

How fun! And you ended up with a great haul at a manageable pricepoint, too. The pieces you brought away with you look perfect for summer - I must check out Uniqlo.

What lovely scarves! I've always liked William Morris designs. There was a good exhibition in SF years ago when I was a student - I got some souvenir postcards, being too broke for anything else!

Isn't Uniqlo great?

Great finds at Uniqlo!!

And isn't it fun to window shop?? Great style report on Zara - I often struggle to find wearable pieces there too and the hectic fitting room lines deter me from experimenting.

First off, I was reminded by recent posts about scarves to visit the gift shop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. So many choices! I ended up with 2 scarves, both of them based on William Morris wallpaper designs. One is a small silk square, the other a very large wool challis square (almost a shawl) that is not particularly current, but I always like to have one of those on hand, and haven't for quite a while. I have worn both of them already.

We stopped in at Saks Fifth Avenue mostly for entertainment, and split up so I had to choose between 3 floors. I should have picked one of the designer floors just for sightseeing, because what I saw reminded me of Lisap's thread about sitting this season out. Lots of ripped skinny jeans and over-the-top weird-sleeved shirts, most in tiny sizes, at prices that made me sweat.

Photo is of the one eye-catching dress, a white eyelet with embroidery. I love the length! DD was hunting for a dress like this for years but finally settled on a short one, and I know she doesn't want a second because we've already discussed it...

On our final morning we had time for another 5th Avenue stop. From the bus I had noticed Topshop, Zara, Uniqlo, Gap (ours closed) so I wanted to hit 2 of those.

We hit Zara first. The main floor was all florals and architectural sleeves, lovely to look at but so not me. But the lower level, easily visible from the main floor, called to me with a sea of stripes. Ultimately the same impractical silhouettes. The only item I wanted was this striped shirtdress. Which I couldn't justify buying, because I own a similar one, thrifted 2 years ago. (Worn in pic 4, on my return, with a sweater overtop because it was still chilly.)

Next shop: I spotted St. John, next to the Microsoft store where DH wanted to browse, so I was on my own. I knew I was in trouble when the doorman was taking umrellas and the SA took my carry-on and offered Perrier. Day dresses for $2000, absolutely gorgeous but no need for them in my life! What I was really looking for was their iconic Breton striped top, but apparently they have stopped making them because everyone who matters already has one and they last forever. Also it seems there is a department store but this was the boutique. So I beat a hasty retreat.

Fortuitously... across the street was Uniqlo. And there I hit the jackpot. I bought several classic Ts (2 navy, 1 white, 1 striped), a sleeveless navy linen blouse, a white lawn skirt, navy culottes, and navy shorts. Prices were incredibly low even after converting to Canadian $, and even lower because on sale. DH bought a shirt and casual pants (as well as a shirt at Saks).

All in all, very pleased with my haul! Nothing "needed" (apart from always "needing" more scarves) but essentials replenished in better quality.
