But those were heavily road tested by Suz and the forum. I agree that jumping into an unknown like this may not be the best bet. I used Kiwi heavy duty waterproofing spray on my cotton anorak with good results - not like a slicker or anything, but very decent. Something you already have will do, and you will have the advantage of them being broken in. I know you are probably freaking out about choosing the perfect things to pack, but whatever you take, it will work out okay. You probably won't *have* to buy a pair of shoes in NYC, but you might find something there that you really love, and that will be better than settling for a sneaker now that you would only wear on the trip. I have the Born oxfords that she linked and they are very comfy and walkable. If you spray them, they will be reasonably waterproof unless you step in a big puddle or something.
