DH and I popped over to the High Line the last time we were in the city. For some reason I thought we'd have it all to ourselves, lol. It was nonetheless a lovely walk.

Have a great trip.

For walks, I always enjoy the Brooklyn Bridge (best views from Brooklyn towards Manhatten), the high line early in the morning before it is a mob scene, walking through the West Village (especially W 11th). For museums, the Metropolitan and MOMA have amazing collections and if you want something on a smaller scale, the Tenemant Museum is interesting. If you are going to Ellis Island, know that it will take a chunk of time and you should make a reservation to reduce the wait time

Cloisters really does take a while to reach by subway - a good friend lives a few blocks from there and I always forget what a trek it is to see him. Not a problem, just a heads up.

If you like modern art, I like MOMA PS1 in Queens almost as much as the main MOMA.

And I love the High Line like Christina said!

MOMA is excellent. Just beware all the selfie sticks hogging the front of Starry Night. I already mentioned what's on at the Met.

If you want to go a little ways out from the middle of Manhattan, the Met's Cloisters Museum at the very north end of the island is lovely. And that area should be beautiful this time of year - it's in a park right on the Hudson. But YMMV - depends if you like Medieval art.

One of my friends does the tours at the One World Trade Observatory, so I'll put in a plug for that, too.

The High Line and new Whitney Museum are beautiful, but both will be mobbed.

I will also add - it's a New Yorker thing to wait in line for food fads, such as cronuts. I don't get why, though I've lived here for years. If I were a tourist with limited time, I wouldn't do it. On a similar note, Shake Shack is perfectly fine, but also not really worth waiting in line for (the Times Sq line is crazy). I've had better burgers at more of a sit down chain called Five Napkin Burger. (However, if you go to Chinatown and see a line for a hole in the wall type restaurant, it's probably worthwhile.)

If you like mac and cheese, go to a place called S'mac, but not the one in the East Village. The one on 33rd st is less crowded, and not far from Empire State.

I could probably add a lot more, but that's all for now!

Renegade Florist? Tell me more!

I wondered about Ellis Island! I've toured Pier 21 (Halifax) where my dad came in, but my mom has stories of sailing under Lady Liberty when her family emigrated.

MOMA was my favorite, hands down. I did enjoy going to Ellis Island and looking up my husband's grandparents.

Anniversary surprise. We are going to NYC leaving Saturday morning. We have tickets to Phantom of the Opera and 2 dinner reservations. Plans to hit Central Park and museum(s). I have never been (conference where I never left the building doesn't count).

Any advice on what not to miss for a first-timer?
