Thank you so much Deb. I would like to throw in how difficult is also is because many of live so far away from family and I find that fewer people are having funerals. There is a disconnect. Alain de Botton said it beautifully when he said that we don't know how to die anymore or deal with it. Part of it is because we no longer have communities. That whole "alone, together " thing.

My 48 year old SIL died of cancer in September. She did not believe in modern medicine and believed that vitamin d and positive thinking would give her strength overcome it. It was hell. She was cremated. It was surreal to just have her body taken away. No ceremony , no real acknowledgement, no pause. And because she lived in another state and in France part-time, it seems even more unreal. Luckily, her hospice center has sent me wonderful news letters on grief. They have been invaluable.

I agree, Alexandra - we had a discussion as professionals recently about "rational suicide" - of course nothing was decided, but it's an interesting way of looking at things.

Interesting, yes. Maybe a larger discussion about end of life, death, and all that surrounds it, will follow. It's overdue anyway, at least in the US.

I just read this very interesting article about how the first wave of online generations is changing the mourning process. The resources could be very helpful for so many of us here.
