Sveta, that was precisely my response. There's something wonderful about dresses that are so powerful. I looked at the photos of the different time periods, thinking that I might find a particular decade that most stirred me (read: update my profile regarding favorite fashion era). While I'm not as fond of the flapper dresses, I found most of the others appealing (along with Cookie). Maybe that just speaks to the quality of the pieces that would be shown in a museum.

Thanks so much for sharing this! Love the elegance of the five gowns grouped together on the first slide.

Something is stirring inside me when I see dressed for 1920s - eve though they are possibly wrong for my body type. My favorite is French one on the 8th slide.

"An exhibition at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art examines how American women — and their clothing — have evolved over the years. The show, which closes Sunday, is called "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity," and it features everything from gowns to riding habits to a woolen bathing suit — clothes created between 1890 and 1940 that show the gradual emancipation of the American woman, and her rise as an international symbol of style and beauty."

I'm loving the Jessie Franklin Turner gold lame myself... You?
