I was going to head back home to the UK this summer, as I do every year (to see family & to escape the brutal heat, humidity & typhoons that characterise Hong Kong's summer months. Oh & to shop for in-person clothing finally available in my size, of course ).

My airline has cancelled my ticket, but I'm still trying to chase up the refund... it may be possible to just rebook the flight at a later date but, given how long it may be until international travel feels safe again, I think I'd rather just get new tickets closer to the time. I was also supposed to speak at a conference that's been rescheduled to the winter.

I'm very grateful however, because I had my birthday & honeymoon in Malaysia earlier this year & returned to HK only 4 DAYS before we entered full lockdown - we had been toying with the idea of extending our trip for another week. Talk about timing! Luckily my studies are online so that hasn't been too disrupted either - fingers crossed I get to attend my UK graduation next year!

I was supposed to go to Mexico in March. Postponed til November but who knows?

I was supposed to go to the Olympics, too. Our tickets are supposed to be good next summer, so as long as it's safe and the event is happening, we will go. Instead, we may take a road trip to a family summer house, which we otherwise wouldn't have done this year. (Being sure to get tested before leaving and keeping to ourselves once there. Fortunately, it's now easy to get a swab test here.)

I had a family trip to Japan planned for October which is unlikely to happen. The tickets were purchased, but no accommodation. I should be able to move the flights to 2021 when it is safe to travel again.

My journey to the Faroe Islands in August is cancelled, but the event I was invited to might be held next summer instead, in which case I will consider to go. And I still hope to go to Denmark in August.

My flight to Denmark in April was cancelled, but I got cash points and will probably use them for another flight next fall or spring, if at all possible.

Congrats Cindy!
I postponed my trip to visit my dad, which was supposed to happen in spring. I just asked the airline to keep a credit- which will expire in January next year. I may just ask for my $$$ back though and drive to see him- as miserable as that would be. Other things DH and I were planning have gotten cancelled or made virtual.

I haven't had to postpone any travel, but I've had to NOT plan any travel to visit mom. I also had to delay celebrating the milestone of 15 years sober, which was in April. Tonight we finally get to have birthday night

Sorry for all the disruption and disappointments, including the ones that involve tending others.

We had come back from our last trip (domestic extended family visit) in very early March, gathered some pantry items and have stayed home since. There are multiple “big” trips in a yet to be sequenced queue; was to be Mr E’s retirement year and we were hoping to do a lot of traveling. We await a vaccine for air travel plans at this point. We are still hoping to eventually take as many trips as possible; feels harder to predict how it will all play out. Concerns about Covid and the unsettling times may impact choices in yet to be seen ways.

My mother’s visit to me, my visit to her, and several trips together with her and DH to see friends, family and family history spots have been cancelled. Hopefully we can reschedule after there is a vaccine so she can see everyone. One local wedding is cancelled and one across country in October is up in the air (along with seeing relatives in the same city). Bigger trips in the think about stage-who knows.

We were supposed to go on a cruise in March with another family. We'll probably go eventually, but when we'll reschedule that is anyone's guess.

My father-in-law passed away a few weeks ago and we weren't able to have any sort of memorial or funeral service. We'll do some sort of memorial for close friends and family when larger gatherings (my state currently doesn't allow gatherings of more than 5 people) are allowed again - something like a backyard BBQ.

We have an annual trip to Puerto Penasco, Mexico in August that we're still tentatively planning on. It depends on if the US/Mexico border is open and the town is allowing tourists. The drive is 12 hours and we usually break it up into 2 days, but we can drive it all in one day if we have to. We always rent a house and then don't leave for the week we're there and the beach is practically deserted, so it's not much different from socially distancing here.

We were going to Colorado to visit family and vacation this summer. For several reasons, that doesn’t seem like a wise idea now, and we’ll do it another year.

My favorite Aunt is in Hospice in Florida; I’m sad I can’t visit her.

And I’d planned to attend a professional conference in Virginia in July, which has been canceled.

DH and I have now tentatively planned a Grand Canyon visit in April of 2021. We’ll see if that will actually be possible.

It’s shaping up to be a summer of staying close to home, focusing on projects here, and taking things a week at a time.

Well, this isn't as flamboyant as many people's trips, but we were planning a big family party for DS2's High School graduation and DS1's two year tech degree/graduation. Neither is happening (well, Ds2 is having a "drive-in" ceremony for graduation). DD was going to art camp this summer, which is cancelled. The entire family was going to make a trip to Massachusetts and New York, but we've cancelled.

I am currently still scared about going back to school in the fall. My fear is that schools will be expected to be open because parents need child care in order to go to work, but children are carriers (and can get an inflammatory disease associated with the virus). So schools won't realize until it is too late that at least one child was a carrier and we will see infection spread like wildfire through school buildings. We will close again in December, but by then it will be too late and almost everyone will have been exposed. If the mortality rate is what they're talking about, it makes me shudder to think which 18 kids and staff will be gone by the time things are "safe" again. And my mum is 81, so I likely won't be able to see her at all after school starts because of my exposure.

We've hit 100K deaths in the US, and I think we're just getting started...

We had to postpone my husband's son's 40th birthday celebration which was going to take place in Montreal at the end of April. He had invited quite a few people from Canada and the US. He and his husband live in New York. We don't know when we will see them in person again.
DH and I usually go on a big trip once a year but until there is a vaccine I don't know if we will. Where we live is pretty safe but venturing further away could be iffy. DH is in his 70s and is being very careful.
I had hoped to see my family in England in the next year or two. I doubt that will happen. I am not getting on an airplane until there is a vaccine.

Fortunately no purchased travel, but my recent grad has 30 days of leave before starting his assignment on 6/20, and had long been planning to go back to Israel for every single day of it after he fell in love with the country, and the people, last summer. My husband and other son (who has not been there yet) were going to go with him for part of the time. That 30 day leave will not be reissued any time soon - it's such a waste to have these weeks off now, with little open and all the idle time of the last few months. Huge loss, as it would have been an extremely meaningful trip for my husband to make with both of our boys. He and I had such an emotional visit to Israel in November, retracing his father's path at the end of WWII.

I love to travel and we leave the country annually to see new places, but have to say that I'm in the camp of waiting for a vaccine before planning anything major. No desire to sit on a plane soon. With both our sons there, we will continue our regular drives up to Boston once things open up and I feel better about hotels, etc... Driving only for foreseeable future. Probably will do some camping this summer.

I have a colleague who had personal trips to Hawaii, Italy, and South Korea this spring and summer - all planned and money invested. Ugh! Sorry for everyone's losses on all levels.

We cancelled a multi-milestone March break trip to Mexico. We will have no choice but to rebook at some point as Air Canada is only offering a travel voucher instead of a refund. Don’t think the govt will push airlines to refund as we need a viable airline in our country.

The good news is after many other voucher timelines, AC has now offered a voucher without expiry. The bad news is the voucher may not cover the cost of travel in the future. I think it’s going to become *very* expensive to fly.

Luckily I didn’t book anything definite for this year. I look wistfully at trips, but the situation with Dad precludes all trips, regardless of COVID-19
Also our county hasn’t even left Phase 1, so we’re not supposed to travel far anyways. Though I know people who are taking day road trips of sorts.
The Canadian border is still closed and I just learned that BC is only allowing BC residents to reserve camping. I think it’s only the provincial parks.

ETA, I was supposed to see New Order and Pet Shop Boys at the end of September at the Gorge (cool outdoor venue in central Washington), but the whole tour got canceled/postponed. Unfortunately they’re not doing refunds, my tickets will be good next year. A lot can happen in a year, as we all know

We had to cancel a visit to Portugal and we don't have a consensus in the house because totally cancelling until better times or simply postponing is not an easy decision when it has to do with visiting close family.
I am in the camp of just cancelling and make plans that don't involve travelling as I think it is not worth the risk involved.

We're usually in Europe at this time of year, so it feels weird to be sitting at home right now. No immediate travel plans, but we're itching to take off somewhere at some point. Mr. Xtabay hasn't been to the Caribbean, so I want to take him there. And, I've heard they're running the ferries to the Greek islands again, which made me perk up! But until there's a vaccine, there is no way I'm stepping on a plane.

I’m sorry to all of those who have had to postpone or cancel long-awaited plans! It sucks.

This was an unusual year, in that I didn’t have any big trips planned yet when this all hit, and I usually have one big trip a year.

I was planning on going to Vegas in May for a gala for a charity we support and then spending 10 days or so camping and photographing in the desert. So...that didn’t happen. My husband and I talked about doing some sort of RV rental and road trip later this year, and it’s not out of the question, but we’re not jumping on it either. His work situation and our income is in flux, so we’re holding off on planning anything.

Big picture: we definitely want to visit New Zealand and Japan sometime in the next few years, and if money were no object we would return to Africa too. Ideally we want to take these big trips before we get into our 60s.

Fortunately I haven’t booked any trips or vacations for this year, but I did promise my kids that we will go to Japan - it supposed to be graduation gift for my son who is big fan of everything Japanese. Hopefully we will be able to do it some other time when long distance travel became safe again.
In any other typical year we would have a beach vacation, few trips to visit my parents and my husband side of family and at least one business conference. So far nothing is scheduled or even planned. Austria is reopening hotels in 2 days and advising people to take local vacations but we will see about that option. I am now focused on bringing my son back home from UK - he is finishing university in 2 weeks, but there are no flights yet. I am not sure how much longer can he stay at his current accommodation.

We had a family trip planned to NYC and Montreal that I was SO looking forward to and of course it had to be cancelled. I’m just not sure if or when we will travel again.

I had five trips planned for a 10-week period this spring- a bit more than my usual travel schedule. Some were quick overnights along the DC-Boston corridor, and a couple were to CA (work, and visiting family.) It was disappointing not to see my parents, siblings, colleagues and friends. The work events will resume when it’s safe, and we’ll decide about visits to family. My mom has been a rockstar with social distancing and keeping my dad safe, but it’s still been super hard, and she’s started worrying that she won’t ever see her non-California kids and grands again.

At this point, we’re not planning any family trips that involve plane travel, and instead I’m tackling some bigger home projects. We’d actually been thinking about taking DSs to Europe in 2021, but we’re pushing that off for 2022/post-vaccine.

My March and May plans to travel to see my mother and sisters was, as expected, canceled. I have plans to travel to the Berkshire’s in Mass in mid July. I was thinking i would cancel, plane travel etc, and all music & theater seem to have been canceled. BUT, this trip is to celebrate my mother’s bday, and each week she seems to be getting more and more upset/angry about SIP etc. And its been 6 months since I’ve seen her, so now I’m thinking I’m going. I’m not sure if its the right thing to do, but I’m not sure not seeing her is the right thing to do either.

I had no precise plans but one of my goals for 2020 was to travel more, imagine! Among others I had been invited to Japan. Now I do not even know if we will be allowed out of the region this Summer. Anyway I plan to reschedule.
