This passage: “ What drew me to these two items was the potential for raucous pattern mixing, but also the ability to toss them on over my black essentials when I'm feeling less bold, but still want to liven things up.” Really resonated with me and made me think back to our earlier discussion of the desire for 75% FFBO/25% creative outfits (which, I am sorry, I never quite pulled my thoughts together enough to start a thread on but am obviously still pondering). Anyway, your comments here make me think that many of your statement pieces must work in both types of outfits (patterned topper over jeans/black = ffbo; rock star pattern mix = creative). I love them, probably as a result of living so much of my life in the western half of the US, and have quite a collection of Mexican woven blankets in my house. Somehow, though, the really bold geometrics don't feel as authentic when I try to wear them, even if I can't resist a good Pendleton. See the two Finds below, which I am continually tempted by. Lesley, I'm so glad to hear that! Aquamarine, I know what you mean about certain clothing items just not feeling authentic (see my comment to Staysfit above). Sometimes, it just takes some time to adjust our conceptions of ourselves, but other times it's a pretty clear signal something's not right. RobinF, oftentimes my boards are more genuinely about a "mood" than about particular combinations, but it's fun to go in for more specific inspiration as the year goes on. nemosmom, that makes total sense. I do think I'm very influenced by place. Beth Ann, I agree about the end of year recaps. It's a great catch-up as to where everyone's at style-wise! Kathie, I've been hemming and hawing over the PC jacket for months and thought I'd missed my chance to get it when it went out of stock. So glad I didn't! It must have been an early harbinger for the direction I was heading. Christina, hopefully I'll be able to channel some of that 60s energy without going full Austin Powers! Janet, I hope they have some staying power. I usually don't go quite so all in with multiple similar pieces at once, but they both caught my eye when I had space in my plan and $$ to spare, so maybe it was kismet. Suz, the fact that I still love my Johnny Was duster made me think that these are the sorts of additions that will be able to live in my wardrobe for a while. I hope that's the case! Angie, I had that same thought about the jeans! It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out in the summer when layering isn't practical, but that's where the continuum comes in. I'm still pretty happy in solid neutrals too. lisa p, at least right now, these feel somewhat sophisticated to me. The texture on the jacket is fab, too. Sloper, reveling in the cooler weather while it lasts!
