I grew up in the suburbs and lived there except for college, when I lived in a mid-sized city. B. has never lived in the city either. For a while living in the suburbs made sense as we initially both worked there (and I still did, for most of the past year, at the job I recently left) but most of our friends lived in the city, and we felt a but socially isolated in the suburbs while still paying comparable rental prices to what we found in our friends' neighborhood.
