I throw laundry in one of those grocery walking things, which is great because it keeps it off the floor, and it is not recommended to throw piles of clothes on the floor.

Any "not yet dirty" clothes I hang on the sides. Key to me is that they are visible so I remember to wear them, and with my tiny bedroom, that cart is out at all times.

If I did not have this set-up, then I like Suz' idea of hanging on the door. Key to me is that it is visible, but looks organized.

Thanks for the input. I have started 3 new habits from your ideas, we will see how they work. First, I put a basket on my "chair" so at least the clothes are contained, and it does not look like a pile. Then I will try Janets' backward idea and thanks to DonnaF, I have space in the laundry area to hang some things and I had not even considered that "real estate" for my in limbo items.
Appreciate your input!
.

I just hang them back in the bathroom where I dress and wear them the next day, or as soon as the weather permits, so they get washed quickly. Only bottoms and my cashmere sweater (since I wear a tank top under) get reworn and no more than once for pants and sweater and twice for skirts.
I never have more than 1 pair of sleep pants and 1 regular use thing in that stage at a time.

I’m not very concerned about “ decontamination “. I’d mostly like to focus on 2-3 tops ( in different warmth levels usually) for maybe a week at a time rather than partly wearing every top there. It could be that I have been operating on mood dressing, and need to, but I think some focus could help me. The kind where if I keep selecting something but always put it back & wear something else, it may need to go bye-bye.

I’m thinking of hanger reversals in reverse of Janet’s— so, easier to reach for the already- worn item first, & consider why not, and select a new clean ( backwards) item intentionally. So, combining the “preference” system with the laundry system.
Oh boy! Actually I think it’s just good ( for me) to try new closet ideas from time to time, as I think it promotes more SYC and outfit creation. Refreshing the landscape of how I “ see” things before adding new things.

I have some hooks but not enough! I hang a large % of my items so usually hang gently worn back up. But I need a better system of defining that group.
I sort of have enough rod space , mainly if I would think more in “ capsules” and remove/ rotate items.

But I’m really thinks about Janet’s backward hangers. The backward hanger thing has been promoted a lot for identifying clothes you are not reaching fur, but I’ve never tried to use it for laundered/ gently worn. I think that might be great for me! Not sure which group for which yet.

I have a habit of wearing lots of things once , in a week. Clinic that is due to temp changes. Not talking yard work, but errands/ casual events. it’s not a crime, but makes it hard to keep straight. I’d like to see if I could wear same outfit/ small capsule a few times, launder, & move on, both for keeping track of laundry and for seeing why/ why not wearing things.

After airing and shaking in the open air. If i had a laundry room the 90% of the mess that reigns in my house would disappear.

When I change my clothes I hang them up to air over the shower bar above my tub. I also hang my next day’s outfit there to eliminate any crushing folds from my too full closet. This means a bit of rushing around to take everything down before my shower!

I’m with LJP, after I finishing wearing something and its not in need of a laundry, I’ll simply put it away in the closet. Nothing more complicated than that.

I think , and correct me if I’m wrong , that space ( in homes ) is a particularly North American luxury , yet not afforded to all here . I live in NA but certainly do not have the luxury of space to hang worn clothing apart from my general closet , and , I certainly don’t wash everything every time I wear it . I’ll hang the odd thing on the back of the laundry room door to air out if I think it needs it , but the clothes worn on any given day go back into the closet before I call it a night if they don’t need washing . I love the steam refresh cycle on my dryer for a spiff - up too . I’ll admit it’s never occurred to me that I’m doing anything gross and unhygienic , and I do even expose my clothing to public transit twice a week !

This is one big motivation to me to not let my closet get too crowded. I want everything to have some room to air out and refresh over time. I also have a variety of hooks in and around my closet, as Janet mentioned, so I can hang something up very loosely overnight and then put it away properly on a hanger the next day.

Thanks for the input and thank you Angie for linking the post.
I like ideas that note the item has been worn and will start to incorporate some of them. As I reflected on Angie's Feb. post, I am still largely team throw it on a chair, but it is getting tiresome to tidy up a weeks' worth of clothing. Thank you all!

I have a sliding valet rod in my closet that I use to hang up gently worn items to let them air overnight, and then I rehang or I fold and stack back on the shelves but backwards so I know the item has been worn. Works great for me, especially handy for jeans and pants — if they’re folded and stacked waistband out, I can quickly see if I’ve been spreading the wear around and grab a pair I’ve already been wearing.

Since COVID I have been more particular about "airing" my clothes after a wear. Fabbers, what practices have you found useful for those items that you have worn, but are not needing a wash? I feel like we have discussed this before but still interested in what others have had success with.
