No worries! I did the same to another fabber yesterday; I try to get my enabling in every so often. It's a sign we have each others' backs, so to speak. :)

Ha Suz, yeah, now I'm rethinking. The sleeves themselves don't have complications like zips or buttons, Norstroms would offer free alterations on them, and Nordies makes it risk-free (apart from the risk that I'll end up keeping it!)

I'm trying to Girl Math some things at the moment...

Bad bad bad bad bad! This woman is looking for a pat on the back, not enablers! :D Mochi, should I go get the rolled-up newspaper?

That being said, the girls are right. If you really admire the Lanai, and you can afford the purchase, and it is an item that fits into your vision of how you would like to style yourself, you should certainly try it on. So what if it needs altering? Men get their suit pieces tailored all the time - why shouldn't the ladies? Now that I've started getting pieces tailored, I am wondering why I ever thought it was such a big ordeal.

If it's simply that you feel like you 'should' have a Lanai because it's so popular on the forums, but you don't actually love it, then let it be.

The jacket itself is not long. You can see it on Shannon (who is 5'1") in her threads - she got one off eBay. And you can see me trying it on in a pile of threads (I returned mine, but not because of length).

The sleeves are long but so what? I always alter sleeves. Always. (Well, almost always. Once in a blue moon they will be the right length for me.) And in this case, the sleeve is a simple alteration. No buttons -- it's just a quick turn up.

The colour is pretty versatile -- it might be difficult to pair with navy pants, but it would work with denim, black, some charcoals, and other colours.

I think it would look great on you. Not that I am enabling or anything. :)

I didn't see the post and the Theory Lanai jacket I saw online is leather and quite an investment if you are not sure. A well cut navy jacket is an essential staple for me but I'd recommend waiting until you see the one you love so much you just cannot live without it.

Well, I don't know whether it would have worked for you or not, and I certainly understand the "Hide the credit card!" issue, but I just have to say that it wouldn't cost anything to try that jacket and see if it would work for you.
I have the Lanai in another fabric, and I didn't find it to be super long, or to have really long sleeves. If the overall length is OK, shortening sleeves is no big deal.
Just saying- maybe you should at least try it?

I was seriously considering the Theory Lanai jacket Angie just recommended on a recent post. In theory (ha ha) I would have been the perfect wearer for it: short-necked, busty, apple, etc etc. Moreover, I have already been searching for a great sporty navy blazer-type jacket. And the price is very good.

Online Nordstrom reviews talked about the long long length of the sleeves and overall jacket length, which is what dissuaded me, especially as a short-waisted petite already. It was also interesting how two reviewers thought the navy color made it hard to wear with anything but jeans. (I'm not sure that would have been a problem for me.)

I almost used the girl math to buy a pair of black booties, but really, I am not being methodical here and decided to back off. I just ordered a camera for Black Friday--I am feeling like I should hide my credit card from myself for a while.
