Yes, I echo the others in saying there's nothing wrong with not being into Cons! I wasn't into them before YLF; then I got a pair and now I am semi into them Like Kristen, I think of them as transitional shoes, between boots and sandals (I have only one other pair of flat shoes).

I think short cowboy boots would be an awesome alternative! I treat my Frye Heath boots like that, even though they are almost midcalf, they work great under bootcuts.

Interesting thread! I agree if they don't work naturally for you, no need to force it! Plenty of others fsh out there in the sea. Sarah I really like the look of the Asics you posted. Tara maybe you're just not a sneakers gal? Nothing wrong with sticking to ballet flats or another casual alternative (except for gear occasions of course).

I love my cons (a lovely shade of dusky pink ... not a clear, bright pink) in spring and fall and also with ballet flats. Boots for me in winter. Sandals or ballet flats in summer. I suppose 4-season wardrobes are fun with lots of variety.

I snagged a dark purple pair of Cons from TJ Maxx last spring (?) and have worn them a few times, in an effort to copy some MOTG formulas...but I think I am finally going to give them up - they are just not me, and I don't feel right in them! Thank you, Tara - this has been a freeing thread. lol For me, they just feel too young (I think it's more the overall style than the color) and too sporty for where I want my style to be.

I LOVE my apple green Miz Mooz Carlitos tho, and second (third?) the low heeled cowboy boot suggestion.

I haven't worn my Cons in ages. I just do not feel fabulous in them, and I always find myself thinking outfits with Cons would look much better with some other kind of shoe.

I still keep them because they do serve a purpose (for a walk in the park, for example), but overall there are much better options out there. I don't think you have to analyze the reasons. If you don't love them, you don't love them.

I have some Keds that look like baseballs that I like, even though they might be a tad kitschy. They're good run around sneaker type shoes. And I like the quirkiness of baseball stitches but you can find Keds in a million different colors or patterns if you want a canvas sneaker alternative.

I've never been a Cons girl myself either. I think they look great on others, and my husband even rocks a maroon pair of John Varvatos Cons and they look fab on him.
I've always been more of an Onitsuka Tigers girl myself, though. Maybe try some of these?
http://www.zappos.com/onitsuka.....ns-shoes~1
But of course cowboy boots are a brilliant option.

If they're a 7.5 you should send them to me! Don't want them to languish in the closet unworn...

Season wise, canvas is perfect for my climate - it never gets all that cold here I also like that they can be paired with skirts where other sneakers look wrong.

I've been off the cons as well lately as well. but I think its also because I am off bootcuts right now and straights/skinnies don't look right with cons. I'm keeping mine in the closet in case my style heads in a different direction at some point.

Good seasonal points about Cons! Even though you are in a warm locale, canvas in 'winter' may feel wrong. Leather flat boots should feel better.

Then funky canvas would be a great transition for spring. . .

Cons for me are mostly a spring casual shoe, as a transition away from heavy winter boots but before diving right into sandals. Even then, it has to be with just the right outfit, something fun and kicky and uber-casual. So if you are not feeling the Cons love, put them away until it feels right to bring them back out! Their moment will come around again.

Interesting thread Tarzy, and timely. I currently own 2 pairs of Cons: 1 purple, and 1 charcoal. I love Cons, and they love my narrow feet and urban style.

That said, I'm not loving the purple pair as much these days. The minimalist in me is struggling with having 2 colors of the same shoe. And the grown-up in me is wondering if the purple kicks are a bit "cartoonish," considering the fact that I tend to wear that hue (and other saturated colors) near my face.

I am on the verge of a pre-2011 household purge. I am considering giving the purple ones away and keeping the charcoal pair. So, you are not the only one who is re-evaluating your Cons.

I don't know why. The last few times I've pulled them out, they just haven't felt right, and I've ended up putting them back in the closet. I've seen lots of "mature" ladies rock Cons, so maybe it's just that my black ones are too harsh? Or maybe they're just a bit too casual for where I'm going - style-wise - these days?

Maybe I'm just not a sneakers girl? I've never found Pumas to be comfortable - no support. What are other options?

Could Frye Carsons could be my "run around, low heel" alternative to sneakers?
