I really like my Mother jeans which are skinnies, they are just so comfortable, so a good weekend / travel option for me. I think skinnies are classics, but they have had their fashion moment.

You look stunning in this outfit, I am sure you turned heads as you walked around the shops. I love these dark burgundy colours on you.

I've bought a few pair of true skinnies on sale this last year and they are okay, but I prefer a looser fit. I bought them, so I'll wear them, and I do notice many women are wearing them in my area. Since being here on YLF I have come to realize that I have narrow calves and overall skinny legs, so I don't think the skinnies are my best look.

And I see the store still stocked with high piles of skinnies. One good thing about them, I don't have to have them hemmed shorter as I do with boot or straight cuts.

I still have a pair of true skinnies and I still occasionally wear them-- my CoH Rockets. Most of my slim straights are too small at the moment, ouch! and in the holding zone. On me they always looked a bit more like skinnies. My calves "catch up" so many styles, so if I find a pair that more or less skim I am delighted. However...at the moment I am far more attracted to my wide crops but when it's truly cold I won't regret keeping a pair of skinnies around to tuck into boots.

You look great in this outfit - love those boots and now I want a pair. You rock the dark colors in a way that I cannot, so I will live vicariously.

I am so happy that wider cuts are available at retail now. I was never on the skinny trend as they just don't flatter me. Like La Ped my waist/hip is a very different size from my calves. I even struggle with straight legs, as they catch on my claves and bunch up. I'm envious of all of you who can wear the slims and skinnies, and I still admire them from afar.

So interesting to see the variety of opinions and experiences with skinnies! I was a late adopter of them and have never thought they were my most flattering style, but I warmed to them over time. I will still wear them, and I do not think they are “out of style” — they’re just not particularly trendy anymore unless they are high rise.

Lisa, I’ve had those boots and that bag for a few years, and I do enjoy them. But they are fall-winter items for me, so they go into hibernation for six months. The bag color is a very dark plum metallic that almost functions as a neutral. I keep thinking I need (yeah, “need”) a burgundy bag, but this one usually seems to work well with those outfits that seem to call for burgundy.

The boots have not gotten a ton of wear because they seemed a bit stiff when I first got them. I avoid wearing them for days when I will be on my feet a lot, but yesterday I was relieved that they seemed comfortable for close to two miles of walking around. I notice that some of my go-to footwear from past years is not as comfortable as it used to be, so I was happy those still work! They are one of those rare pair of lace-up boots that slip on and off easily, despite the lack of zipper. The laces and grommets are particularly smooth so it’s a cinch to lace and unlace them.

The last (and only) time I owned a pair of true skinnies was about four years ago. They were eggplant-coloured corduroy, not denim. Very useful for layering, but I destroyed the soft, stretchy fabric in a matter of months (they were Kut Diana's, for reference). Because they were low-rise they rode down constantly if I didn't belt them (which doesn't work under dresses and tunics); that drove me nuts so it ended up being a case of good riddance anyway. There are a lot more options for high-rise curvy-fit skinnies out there now than there were five years ago, so I might actually add a pair as a substitute for leggings if I can find some that fit well (Madewell and Everlane have some promising candidates). I do like having some body-con bottoms to wear with short dresses and tall boots.

I have an odd body type in that my legs don't taper much and are a size or two larger than my waist and hips so skinny jeans aren't as conventionally flattering on me as they are on people who are built differently. I never feel as "slim" in skinnies as I do in pants that sit away from the body a little bit more. Lots of pants that aren't true skinnies still suck at my calves, so I can often get a skinny-ish look from a pair of jeans that would appear straight on others.

Part of the problem is that skinnies became so ubiquitous that they were -- and are -- available in all sorts of great colors and patterns (not that I wear a lot of patterned pants, but sometimes I really want that variety!). It's very difficult to find colored or patterned jeans in other cuts.

You look fab! And burgundy footwear exudes timeless elegance.

Never liked skinnies. Slim straights are better, as they can be comfortable as well as look elegant--a perfect mix in my book.

I'm another one who has never had truly skinny skinny jeans. My version of skinny is more slim fitting. I can't stand anything really tight so they never worked for me anyway. I am still wearing my version of skinny though, haven't yet found wide legs that flatter enough to make me want them.

I love your outfit, those boots are fab!

I've never been a huge fan of skinnies, however I do have some because they are so darn practical for our winter. Because I enjoy my wide legs so much, I find I'm waiting for snow before I bring out my skinnies. This also helps stop the winter fashion season drag out so much, as I have a different silhouette to wear now than I'll be wearing once the snow flies.

You look great in this!

I think what was feeling off was a combination of a couple of things:

1) those particular skinnies are very stretchy and not very soft, so the tight feeling was pretty acute after weeks of wearing looser fits;

2) I’m feeling a big difference these days between slim jeans that are a bit straighter but still narrow enough to touch my calves, and the kind of skinny jeans that hug your legs all the way down to the ankle. The ones I put on and rejected today are the latter.

3) I think I will still wear jeans like that tucked into tall boots for winter, but that wasn’t what I wanted to do today. I was in the mood for those particular boots and somehow I was not feeling that combination of ankle-hugging pants + ankle-hugging boots. I think even lower heeled, wider-ankle combat boots would have made the skinny jeans feel more right.

I’m wearing a LOT of them, but I’m okay not being at the forefront of trends/riding the coattails of stuff that’s not trendy anymore because it still works for me.

My skinnies felt odd after spending a summer in straight and boyfriend cuts. I pulled them out last week to wear with knee high boots, but I do find myself reaching for the flares more often than last year. I guess it’s because our weather has been drier than last year? But I’m not sure...

I am still doing skinnies but they don't feel as fresh, and I'm definitely wearing my straight jeans more often all the time ... Even my go-to skinnies are more "slim" than skinny and don't do the calf clingy thing.

In any case your outfit choice looks fab and those boots are lovely!!!

What I wore as skinnies a few years ago wouldn't be called "skinny jeans" right now so I'm happy with straight, wide, flare and whatever else are coming into current fashion now . A bit over regular boot cuts currently but it could be temporarily ( worn a heck out of it before ).

coming back to edit/retract - because I fear I'm going to start that never-ending discussion about what constitutes skinnies etc. Never mind. I'm still not wearing any of these things very often anymore - kind of bored by the whole look.

The only true skinnies I ever had were ponte/legging like ones, and I'm not wearing those at all this fall/winter. My skinny jeans , which were only labelled that way from Gap, Brand etc, are much more relaxed and don't do that calf-sucking thing at all. I've actually never understood that term - makes me think of tight leggings , not jeans. Anyways, I'm not wearing skinny pants much at all, and agree how quickly that happened. I bought a pair of BR velvet skinnies a couple of weeks ago, wore them once, and felt like a throw-back to some other fashion era.

Cute DKNY boots. You don't need them

Interesting. I only wore my skinnies this winter really when I wore rain boots and usually a parka or similar. I have two scruffy pairs that work for that setting (the rugby field!)

It is funny how suddenly something can feel so wrong.
